JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
A Senior Electrical Inspector assists the Supervising Electrical Inspector in planning the activities of the Electrical Inspection Unit and provides work direction to Electrical Inspectors in the inspection of ongoing and completed electrical jobs. Typical duties include:
- Planning, coordinating, and participating in the inspection of electrical work, including the lay out, assembly, and installation of light, power, bell, fire alarm, clock, and energy conservation systems for proper performance, efficiency, maintenance, and safety requirements.
- Providing work direction and training to Electrical Inspectors on methods of electrical inspection.
- Inspecting outlet boxes, conduits, wires, switchboards, transformers, and cabinets for compliance with plans, specifications, contracts, applicable codes and regulations, and approved material lists.
- Inspecting contract work and reports condition status of such work as it relates to the warranty agreements.
- Assisting District counsel in preparing and compiling legal documentation for construction related litigation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation. Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities may not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.
Education:
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, preferably supplemented by completion of college-level courses in electrical engineering or construction. Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship or trade school program in electrical construction is preferable.
Experience:
Two years of experience as an Electrical Inspector assigned to District projects approved by the Division of the State Architect.
Special:
Employment is subject to medical clearance which meets pertinent provisions of the General Industry Safety Orders of the California Code of Regulations regarding protective equipment when exposed to hazardous materials, including, but not limited to, asbestos and lead.
A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and use of a motor vehicle.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this role is a seasoned technical expert who possesses extensive knowledge of current electrical codes and the leadership skills to supervise and train an inspection team. They must be capable of interpreting complex plans, ensuring strict code compliance, and managing resources effectively to meet project deadlines.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score. Hiring departments may make job offers to candidates on the top three ranks of the hiring list. Eligibility typically lasts for 12 months. The hiring list resulting from this assessment process may be used to fill open positions in related job classifications.
