JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

A ERP Manager plans, defines, and develops ERP systems strategies and standards. They will also coordinate, manage, and review the work of ERP systems production support and project teams engaged in analyzing and defining assigned ERP system functions and business processes and user needs. 

 

Typical duties include:

  • Managing and planning the activities of ERP systems production support and project teams and coordinating the integration of projects with ERP systems.
  • Providing expert knowledge and assistance in software implementation services evaluation and selection; and managing contract negotiations with software, hardware, and service vendors.
  • Defining and developing systems strategies and standards, defining the scope of projects, coordinating project schedules, and monitoring performance.
  • Interfacing with business process stakeholders and owners to identify, define, and document operational needs and objectives, current operational procedures and processes, problems, input and output requirements, and levels of systems access.
  • Coordinating the design and development of new rules and procedures.
  • Interfacing with users to interpret and clarify complex configuration details and process change requirements involving ERP and student systems.
  • Assisting in administering allocated budget resources and controlling expenditures.
  • Making presentations to board members, division heads and other parties to explain and detail ongoing and proposed automation activities.
  • Preparing oral and written status reports on assigned projects.
  • Managing work efforts between departmental end-users and programming staff in the analysis, design, configuration, testing, maintenance, and quality assurance of ERP systems.
  • Reviewing feasibility studies conducted by staff and evaluating recommendations regarding requirements for new systems, enhancements or interfaces to existing systems and ensuring that the systems design fits the needs of the users.
  • Providing assistance in training, mentoring, and coaching professional and technical staff on complex matters related to assigned area.
  • Maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with process owners, administrators, District staff, project consultants, and vendors.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree preferably with a major in business administration, public administration, computer information systems, management information systems, or a related field. Project Management Professional certification preferable. 

 

EXPERIENCE:

Five years of recent full-time paid professional-level experience in the configuration, design, development, modification, implementation, or management of ERP systems with three years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity. Public sector experience is preferable. SAP experience is preferable.

 

SPECIAL:

A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with expertise in managing ERP systems and leading ERP systems production support through cross-functional teams and technical staff. This individual has a foundational knowledge of various business processes, and has experience analyzing complex business requirements to design and develop effective ERP rules, processes, and procedures. The candidate brings comprehensive experience in change management and system or product lifecycle management. They demonstrate an understanding of how to ensure changes are smoothly adopted across the organization while adhering to security standards and regulatory requirements.

 

The candidate will possess strong project management skills, enabling them to successfully coordinate, prioritize, and deliver multiple concurrent initiatives. They effectively manage timelines, resources, and risks to deliver successful system implementations and upgrades.

 

Additionally, they are able to independently evaluate available information and make informed decisions aligned with organizational priorities. The ideal candidate can comfortably communicate and present their solutions and ideas to a diverse group of stakeholders, including process owners, administrators, and service vendors.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score. Hiring departments may make job offers to candidates on the top three ranks of the hiring list. Eligibility typically lasts for 12 months. The hiring list resulting from this assessment process may be used to fill open positions in related job classifications.
