JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

A Student and Family Resources Coordinator coordinates and supervises staff performing case management and resource and referral services within a Healthy Start Program, school-based health clinic, Wellness Center and Wellness Network, or similar student and family support services program. 

 

A Student and Family Resources Coordinator:

  • Supervises Student and Family Resources Navigators and other assigned staff who interact with and refer families to school and community-based services such as a medical, mental health, vision or dental, or other student support services.
  • Assists and participates in case management activities involving the application process for health care services and different health insurance coverages.
  • Connects service partners to schools in order to provide various support services to students such as mentoring, tutoring, or violence prevention programs.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and attends meetings that include school administrators, collaborative partners, representatives from community service organizations, educational institutions, health care partners, and District staff to discuss and review the quality of services, current school and student needs, and modifications to annual key performance indicators.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of program directives such as outreach and enrollment, low and no-cost health insurance programs including those offered by Covered California; and establishes collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to enhance program opportunities.
  • Works with District staff or service partner to develop, organize, promote, and implement public relation events such as awareness of health and student support service programs, activities, and services in communities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED

You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.

 

Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities man not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.

 

EDUCATION

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree preferably in human services, social work, child development, community health, health services, or a closely related field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education provided that evidence of graduation from high school or equivalent educational proficiency is met.

 

EXPERIENCE

Two years of experience providing referral and case management services within a Healthy Start Program, school-based health clinic, wellness center or network. Experience as a Certified Enrollment Counselor is preferred.

 

SPECIAL

A valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of private transportation.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates for Student and Family Resources Coordinator will possess the following:

 

  • Knowledge of program development and improvement techniques such as Total Quality Management (TQM) and Key Performance Indicators (K.P.I).
  • Knowledge of the importance of the protection of Personally Identifiable Information (PII), knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), and knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • The ability to make presentations to multi-ethnic, and multi-cultural groups of students, parents, and collaborative partners.
  • The ability to support parent engagement and empowerment in a school community and facilitate interdisciplinary team support. 
  • Knowledge of youth service agencies and services including medical, mental health, vision or dental, academic, and student basic needs.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with agencies and institutions which provide social, psychological, and medical services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office Suite programs. 

EMPLOYMENT SELECTION PROCESS

The employment selection process for Student and Family Resources Coordinator may consist of a Training and Experience evaluation (T/E), a writing project, a presentation, and a technical interview.

 

TESTING PROCESS

 

  • The Training and Experience evaluation (T/E) is designed to evaluate your education and experience BEYOND the minimum entrance qualifications. Only qualifying candidates will be invited to the next part of the selection process. The T/E will only be distributed to candidates who meet the minimum entrance qualifications. 

  • You will be invited to take these assessments online and testing will be conducted remotely and all applications will be required to submit a Candidate Confidentiality Form prior to testing. Failure to submit these forms before the given deadline will result in the withdrawal of your application from the selection process.

  • Your test scores from these assessments will be banked and used for final calculation.

  • You must receive PASSING SCORES on all TEST MODULES, for all the assessments, to remain in the selection process.

  • Candidates who receive a failing score on any test module will NOT be eligible to move forward in the selection process.

  • The technical interview may be worth 100% of a candidate's overall score and will be used to rank order candidates on the resulting eligibility list. The writing project and presentation will be evaluated in conjunction with your interview.

  • If you are successful on all the assessments and meet the minimum education, experience, and special requirements, you will be added to the eligibility list provided you submit your Bachelor's degree or proof of High School completion/equivalency when requested during the recruitment process.
