The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Elementary Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Walgrove Elementary School towards academic success.

 

Walgrove Elementary serves about 280 students in grades TK-5th, including a Resource Specialist program, five Special Day programs (one Early Elementary program, two Specific Learning Disability programs and two Autism programs on the alternate curriculum) and many enrichment classes funded by the parent booster group. The Walgrove School Community values STEAM, Cognitively Guided Instruction, Studio Lab, Public School Arts program, Visual and Performing Arts, Technology, Outdoor Education Garden program and the Walgrove Wildlands. Walgrove has a student body comprised of 6.8% African American, 3.2% Asian, 32.7% Hispanic, 29.9% White, and 27.4% other ethnicities. Approximately 6.5% are English Learners, 32.7% students with disabilities, and 13.2% are identified as Gifted and Talented. The school is located at 1630 Walgrove Avenue, Los Angeles 90066.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Will have knowledge of guidelines and expectations of Common Core State Standards, LAUSD Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, and District Instructional goals; the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development for all levels of personnel; experience working collaboratively with all stakeholders and demonstrate professionalism and respect all interactions; a willingness to delegate responsibilities as they relate to our school’s climate and committee structure; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support a successful positive school-wide behavior plan. The ideal candidate will believe in a multidisciplinary approach and will support the arts, sciences, and technology. The ideal candidate must be willing to work collaboratively with the staff, parent groups (Friends of Walgrove), and the community while promoting and modeling the school’s values.

SALARY:

SALARY: 40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
