Van Nuys High School is on a 2x8 block schedule and serves approximately 1780 students, in grades 9 – 12, through the comprehensive high school and its three magnet programs, Internationals program and Freshman Academy. The student population is comprised of 84% eligible for free or reduced lunch, 70% Latino, 11.42% White, 10% Special Education, and 24% English Learners. Van Nuys High School is located at 6535 Cedros Ave, Van Nuys, CA 91411.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The Ideal Candidate: will be a visionary and innovative leader who supports the growth of a thriving comprehensive high school. Have knowledge of Common Core State Standards, LAUSD School Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework & District instructional initiatives; experience in leading, supervising and evaluating instructional programs and leading facilitating professional development; have strong and effective planning and organizational skills; experience in interpreting data to inform decisions; will have experience with various district platforms and knowledge in building and maintaining the master schedule at the secondary level. The candidate should have knowledge of systems to enhance progress monitoring of "A-G" progress "C" or better, overseeing counseling services, and program knowledge of A-G requirements to meet the needs of specialized student populations. Experience in implementing School Wide Positive Behavior Intervention Support systems and SSPTs processes; strong ability in communicating effectively with all stakeholders, communities, agencies and school partnerships; experience in promoting a culture of college and career readiness; experience leading schools for the performing arts, experience leading Crisis Teams, Counseling Teams and Supervision Teams. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of the cultural composition of the community and be able to leverage resources from the community.

SALARY:

SALARY: 41G - B Basis ($119,477 – $149,036) – 221 paid days

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office

 

Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                         • Multicultural coursework*

  • Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university       • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
