The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Valley View Elementary School towards continued academic excellence. Valley View Elementary School established in 1917 is nestled in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. Valley View is a small school with a connected, close-knit community and is a TK-5 high performing school with an enrollment of 150 students. Valley View draws students from within the neighborhood school boundaries and across the city. Valley View Elementary offers exemplary instructional models to prepare students for academic success as well as a focus school for social emotional learning. Their responsive teaching practices engage educators and families to support the learning outcomes of all learners. The school is located at 6921 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will have a strong instructional background in using data to implement multi-tiered system of supports for all students; excellent oral and written communication skills and educational leadership experience; strong knowledge of the California academic standards to support standards-based instruction; have strong knowledge of the English Learner Master Plan; experience with MyData, MiSiS, Welligent, Schoology, Whole Child platform and other District applications, such as i-Ready and IXL; the ability to strategize and provide multiple and differentiated learning opportunities to support student academic needs in addition to their social, emotional, psychological, and physical needs; the ability to multitask, create systems and schedules, problem-solve effectively and efficiently; an understanding of the Teaching and Learning Framework in order to support and build capacity of certificated staff; experience integrating technology into teaching and learning; knowledge of the instructional needs of English learners, special education, foster youth, and low income students; and strength as a team player. The Ideal Candidate will also provide support to faculty, staff, students and families, in addition to working cooperatively and collaboratively with teachers and staff; have the ability to strategize; and provide multiple and differentiated learning opportunities to support student academic needs; supervise instruction, analyze data, provide professional development; and develop systems to contribute to a safe learning environment.

SALARY:

40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university               • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
