The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary, to lead the students, staff, and community at Tulsa Street Elementary towards academic success.

 

Tulsa Street Elementary school is located at 10900 Hayvenhurst, Granada Hills, in the Northwest San Fernando Valley.  Tulsa is a diverse school serving about 420 students in grades UTK-5th with students identifying as 68% Latino, 14% White, 4% African- American, 4% Asian, and 4% Filipino.  Tulsa is a High Achieving Title I School and a CA Distinguished School with high expectations for all, including advancing students’ technology skills inside the state-of-the-art computer and math labs. Tulsa’s diversity, boasting families speaking 20 different languages, creates a welcoming environment for all. Tulsa offers a diverse academic program including a School for Advanced Studies program and special education programs. Tulsa is enriched by partnerships and is the pride of its community.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

displays strong relational, planning, organizational, leadership skills and creative problem-solving abilities; possesses the ability to motivate and supervise teachers and staff; communicates effectively with strong speaking, writing, listening and interpersonal skills. They possess strong knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan, the California Common Core State Standards, the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, and the LAUSD School Leadership Framework. The candidate demonstrates the ability to plan and facilitate professional development aligned to school and District goals; uses data to lead stakeholders through cycles of improvement; and manages school operations effectively. They are experienced in implementing, supervising, and monitoring standards-based instruction; guiding school teams in developing action plans for academic achievement; and supporting teachers and staff in delivering high-quality instruction for all student groups.  They have a proven record of fostering relationships, cultivating a positive and joyful school culture, and building capacity among certificated and classified staff. In addition, they have experience implementing positive behavior systems and working with the community to create a safe and nurturing environment that meets the needs of the whole child.

SALARY:

SALARY: 41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university               • District Master Plan requirements*

 

*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

 

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

    • Implementing an effective multi-tiered positive behavior support system to improve social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate
    • Collaborating with parents/community members/community groups to encourage engagement and foster school climate
