JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
A Tractor and Roller Operator operates tractors, rollers, bulldozers, motor-graders, skid steers, and other grading equipment.
Some of the primary job duties performed will require that a job incumbent:
- Operates a wide variety of tractors, blades, bulldozers, dump trucks pulling trailers, asphalt paving machines, heavy power sweepers, motor-graders, rollers, skip loaders, and related equipment in connection with grading and laying asphalt surfacing on school grounds, hauling and delivering heavy equipment, and in controlling weeds.
- Operates an air compressor and related equipment and a concrete-cutting saw.
- Performs minor maintenance and repairs to surfacing and grading machines and equipment.
- Maintains equipment service records.
- Oversees and participates in work performed by a field crew.
- Checks work assignments performed by a single work crew for the day.
- May operate a tack/emulsion rig.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
Experience: Two years of experience in the operation and minor maintenance of heavy motor equipment, including tractors and rollers, required in preparing, laying, and repairing asphaltic surfacing.
Special: A valid California Driver License, Class A. Use of an automobile. A satisfactory, current driving record as obtained from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Special Physical Requirements: Strength to lift items weighing up to 100 pounds. Good vision and depth perception.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the knowledge of:
- Operation and minor maintenance of tractors, rollers, asphalt paving machines, skid steers, skip loaders, dump trucks, blades, graders, discs, drags, scrapers, plows, and other equipment related to the grading, surfacing, and maintenance of school grounds
- Safety practices and regulations relating to the operation of heavy equipment and the use of other tools, equipment, and materials in grading and surfacing
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the ability to:
- Read plans and grade stakes
- Make arithmetic calculations
