The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community towards academic success at Topanga Elementary Charter School.
Located in the scenic Santa Monica Mountains, Topanga Elementary Charter School serves as a unique learning community where academic achievement and environmental education converge. With a commitment to fostering student curiosity and creativity, the school offers specialized outdoor education, environmental science, and arts enrichment programs alongside its rigorous academic curriculum. Topanga Elementary serves approximately 230 Transitional Kindergarten through fifth-grade students, providing a small, close-knit school environment where families, educators, and students collaborate to build a thriving, inclusive community. Academically, 80% of students met or exceeded standards in English Language Arts and 66% met or exceeded standards in Mathematics in the 2023-2024 school year. Topanga Elementary Charter School is located at 22075 Topanga School Rd. Topanga, CA 90290.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will have the ability to work as a dynamic instructional leader to create a cohesive, collaborative, and equitable working and learning environment where all educational partners can openly share ideas, communicate their needs and expectations, and be part of the decision-making process.; will have experience in planning, designing and implementing differentiated professional development; the ability to make formal, public presentations to various partners; a background with social emotional support for students; experience, knowledge, and proficiency regarding learning differences and differentiation of instruction with the ability to lead the staff in the effective use of data to inform instruction; knowledge and experience working with school budgets, school operations, and instructional/technology platforms (Schoology, Focus, iReady); the ability to foster relationships and nurture the development of a positive school culture/climate; and strong organizational skills and problem solving abilities.
SALARY:
SALARY: 40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,691) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*
*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement
For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
