The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services to lead the students, staff, and community at Thomas Jefferson Senior High School towards academic excellence.
Thomas Jefferson Senior High School is a 9th – 12th grade comprehensive high school located at 1319 East 41st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90011. Founded in 1916, the school is rich in history and tradition. The school’s campus is currently being transformed through a comprehensive modernization project.
Thomas Jefferson High School embodies the rich diversity of its South Los Angeles neighborhood. The school’s current enrollment of approximately 600 students is comprised of 90% Latino students and 5% African American students. 95% percent of students are low-income, 30% are English Learners, 12% have Individualized Education Plans, 11% are identified GATE.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will be an energetic and collaborative leader with a passion for supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. The candidate will have strong knowledge of A-G and graduation requirements, master scheduling, and multi-tiered systems of supports. The candidate will also have the ability to interpret data to inform decisions; plan and facilitate professional development aligned to school and District goals; knowledge and experience in managing operational initiatives; ability to foster relationships and nurture the development of a positive school culture and climate; supervise, support, and build capacity among certificated and classified staff; have strong communication and organizational skills, and possess exceptional problem-solving abilities.
SALARY:
40G - B Basis ($116,751 – $145,407) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
