JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
A Supervising Assignment Technician supervises and audits the work of a major assignment unit that prepares assignment transactions.
A Supervising Assignment Technician organizes, coordinates, and supervises the work of a major assignment unit that typically performs the following duties:
- Maintaining confidential eligibility lists and certifying eligibles to appointing authorities, making official job offers, and ensuring the rule of three ranks is adhered to for applicable classifications.
- Processing requests for assignment transactions, including the implementation of salary and retroactive compensation for non-routine requests for authorized legal actions such as reclassifications, reallocations, and salary differentials.
- Explaining assignment transactions and leave forms to administrators, employees, and the public.
- Processing work summaries and work histories by utilizing HRS, SAP, TAS, and microfiche.
- Placing a high volume of Teacher Assistants, Instructional Aides, Educational Aides, Campus Aides, School Supervision Aides, Out-of-School Program Workers, Professional Experts, Community Representatives, Limited Contract Student Aide, Adult Education Teachers, and Early Education Teachers and Aides at schools before the onset of the instructional year.
- Placing employees on reassignments and substitute assignments; determining appropriate salary step placement or salary allocation; and requesting new examinations based on factors such as vacancies, number of provisional employees, and expiration dates of lists.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED
You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities man not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.
EDUCATION
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, preferably supplemented by two college-level courses in personnel or business administration or supervision.
EXPERIENCE
Two years of experience preparing and processing District assignment transactions, preferably including six months of experience providing technical work direction. Completion of the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Organizational Excellence Exceptional Supervisor Certificate Program is preferable.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate is an analytical problem solver who possesses a strong understanding of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements related to Classified or Certificated employment transactions, and has experience applying this knowledge on-the-job. The ideal candidate has a proven record of provisioning exceptional customer service; an ability to independently manage a challenging workload, and operate in a fast-paced and changing work environment. They also have the ability to forge strong working relationships with colleagues and effectively handle conflict. They also have a strong command of the District’s SAP and Success Factors systems as it applies to employment transactions. Further, the ideal candidate has the ability to manipulate spreadsheets and extract information from large data sets using Microsoft Excel, they have effective written and oral communication skills and an understanding of fundamental supervisory/staff development principles. The ideal candidate also has prior experience providing work direction to others.
EMPLOYMENT SELECTION PROCESS
The employment selection process for Supervising Assignment Technician may consist of a a computerized performance assessment, a technical interview, and other test parts as needed.
TESTING PROCESS
- The computerized performance assessment may assess your proficiency in Microsoft Excel 2016.

You will be invited to take these assessments online and testing will be conducted remotely and all applications will be required to submit a Candidate Confidentiality Form prior to testing. Failure to submit these forms before the given deadline will result in the withdrawal of your application from the selection process.

Your test scores from these assessments will be banked and used for final calculation.

You must receive PASSING SCORES on all TEST MODULES, for all the assessments, to remain in the selection process.

Candidates who receive a failing score on any test module will NOT be eligible to move forward in the selection process.

The technical interview may be worth 100% of a candidate's overall score and will be used to rank order candidates on the resulting eligibility list.
