SUN VALLEY MAGNET SCHOOL

PRINCIPAL, SECONDARY

Sun Valley Magnet is an ACS WASC Accredited span school located in Sun Valley in the middle of the San Fernando Valley. The school site opened in 1950 as a middle school and transitioned to a Span School serving grades 6-12.

Sun Valley Magnet is a full school magnet with three separate middle school magnet centers. The overarching focus for the three academies is STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Students get extra courses in science and math as a foundation to their eventual learning in more specialized classes.

Sun Valley Magnet also serves a small 9-12 grade high school as part of its Biomedical Sciences, Engineering and Leadership Academy. The key to its high school success is personalization, mentoring, strong academics, and extensive support systems to ensure that all students graduate on time and are accepted into the college or trade school of their choice. Students in this magnet select a career pathway in engineering or biomedical science and take four years of classes in their specialization.

Sun Valley Magnet serves approximately 1280 students. The demographics are as follows: 90.9% Latino, 1.2% African American, 1.3% Asian/Pacific Islander, 5.7% White/Other.
