The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at State Street Elementary towards academic success.

 

State Street Elementary School has been a pillar of the South Gate community for decades. The school is committed to supporting every student through standards-based instruction within a caring and nurturing environment that prioritizes social-emotional development.  State Street strives to provide a rigorous academic program designed to prepare students to be Ready for the World. The school serves approximately 400 students in grades TK–5 through both the resident school and the Spanish Dual Language Program.  Currently, 24% of students are English Learners, and 24% are students with disabilities. The student population is predominantly Hispanic (97%), with the remaining percentage made up of White, African American, and Filipino students.  State Street Elementary is located at 3211 Santa Ana Street, South Gate, CA 90280.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

is an energetic, collaborative leader with a passion for supporting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. They will possess a deep understanding of the Common Core State Standards, the Teaching and Learning Framework, and the School Leadership Framework.  The candidate should demonstrate the ability to plan and facilitate professional development aligned to school and District goals; use data to lead stakeholders through cycles of improvement; and manage school operations effectively. They will also be experienced in implementing, supervising, and monitoring standards-based instruction; guiding school teams in developing action plans for academic achievement; and supporting teachers and staff in delivering high-quality instruction for all student groups, including English learners, foster youth, students with disabilities, and low-income students.  Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to foster relationships, cultivate a positive and joyful school culture, and build capacity among certificated and classified staff. The candidate should also be skilled in aligning professional development and intervention services with the Single Plan for Student Achievement and the District’s Master Plan for English Learners.  In addition, they will support positive behavior systems, monitor compliance with state and federal mandates, and serve as a resource for students, staff, and families. A well-developed understanding of teacher development, effective feedback, and research-based instructional practices is essential to success in this role.

SALARY:

41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
