SPECIALIST, EDUCATIONALLY RELATED INTENSIVE COUNSELING

SERVICES (ERICS)

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Director, Due Process/NPSS, Los Angeles Unified School District, Division of Special Education or their administrative designee, the duties include, but are not limited to, the following:   

  • Provides technical assistance to schools in determining the need for Psychological Services/ERICS, counseling and guidance, Behavior Intervention Implementation (BII), and Parent Counseling and Training (PCT) for students with disabilities
  • Develops and delivers professional development focusing on effective research and appropriate interventions prior to referral for special education assessment
  • Monitors and provides oversight of the implementation of District policies, procedures, accurate and timely documentation, and best practices relative to Psychological Services/ERICS, counseling and guidance, BII, and PCT
  • Monitors and conducts oversight visits to schools, agencies, and facilities providing Psychological Services/ERICS and counseling and guidance under contract to the District
  • Monitors and analyzes the provision of services via Welligent data reports and provides support and guidance to District and non-public agency providers offering Psychological Services/ERICS, counseling and guidance, BII, and PCT related services

CONTINUE - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that students receive Individualized Education Program (IEP) mandated services (Psychological Services/ERICS, counseling and guidance, BII, and PCT) in accordance with federal and state requirements as well as with District guidelines
  • Supports the successful transition of students with disabilities to less restrictive education environments within the District by providing guidance to school teams
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • During periods of critical personnel shortage of other emergency situations, temporarily perform duties as directed within the authorization of any credentials held and registered with the Office of the Los Angeles County Superintendent of School

SALARY:

Salary: 38G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – B Basis ($110,981 – $138,149) – 221 paid days

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits.  However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school experience working with students with disabilities in a certificated capacity
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential with a School Psychology or School Social Work specialization
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the social-emotional development of children, youth, and young adults, which could include experience with assessment, counseling, and/or behavior planning
  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), California Special Education regulations and District special education policies and procedures
  • Experience using data to develop reports, complete forms, and related compliance documents, as well as, to monitor student progress to make recommendations for moving to less restrictive environments
  • Experience implementing and negotiating non-public agency and non-public school contracts
  • Experience with District data systems, including Welligent, MiSiS, and MyData
  • Successful experience presenting to large and small groups and facilitating consensus among individuals within a group
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in collaboration, conflict resolution, negotiation and professional development
  • Commitment to ensuring equity and access for students and their families
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience and commitment to working collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Ability to travel to other sites and locations throughout the LAUSD
