SPECIALIST, BEHAVIOR SUPPORT

38G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

 

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Division of Special Education (DSE), or their administrative designee, the duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops technical assistance strategies and supports schools in the implementation of multi-tiered systems of behavioral support for students with special needs
  • Develops technical assistance strategies, supports schools regarding the requirements and implementation of all federal and state mandates as well as District policies regarding behavior support of students with disabilities
  • Develops, supports, and provides differentiated training and coaching opportunities to school staff, District staff and families regarding school-wide positive behavior support, classroom management, functional behavior assessment (FBA), behavior intervention plans (BIP), alternatives to suspension, and cultural and linguistic considerations in behavior and discipline
  • Promotes and supports a team approach in behavior support planning and implementation among the school community, teachers, paraprofessionals, students, and parents/guardians
  • Collects and analyzes behavioral data (e.g., MiSiS referrals, IEP history, FBA, discipline, behavior related service, Welligent tracking) to guide discussions regarding individual student supports, classrooms, and school-wide systems
  • Supports the identification, development, and provisions of systemic and systematic intervention to address behaviors of students with disabilities that impede learning and supports the implementation of these interventions
  • Monitors provision of non-public behavioral services, including collaborating with the Due Process and Nonpublic Services Support offices to maximize the use of existing District resources
  • Collaborates with school-based teams to address the needs of students with disabilities engaging in self-injurious behavior

CONTINUE - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the process related to requests for Independent Education Evaluations (IEE) for behavior assessments and adhering to District procedures and timelines
  • Provides selection, direction/guidance, training/coaching, and general supervision to the DSE Behavior Support Department staff
  • Evaluates the performance of subordinate personnel
  • Provides technical assistance regarding the integration of positive behavior supports in all District instructional initiatives
  • Consults and collaborates with all District offices and staff in the adoption, implementation, and maintenance of positive behavior support systems District-wide (Tiers I-III behavioral supports)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SALARY:

Salary: 38G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($131,068 $163,154) 261 paid days

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school experience working with students with disabilities in a certificated capacity
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Special Education Teaching Credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, that included student teaching OR a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential with a specialization in School Psychology, School Social Work, or Child Welfare and Attendance
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) or enrollment in a program to prepare for certification
  • Knowledge of current legal requirements and LAUSD policies and procedures as they relate to behavior
  • Knowledge of and experience in the use, analysis, and assessment of data to guide the implementation of behavior supports and services
  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), California special education regulations, and District special education policies and procedures
  • Experience working with school teams in developing a culture of data-based decision making
  • Experience in both general and special education settings
  • Experience with District data systems, including Welligent, MiSiS, and MyPGS
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in collaboration, conflict resolution, and professional development
  • Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience and commitment to working collaboratively with students, parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators
