Located in South Gate, California, South Gate Middle School is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Established in 1941, the school serves a diverse community with a current enrollment of approximately 1,264 students. The student population is predominantly Hispanic (around 96%), with a significant number of students qualifying for the Free or Reduced Lunch Program (approximately 91.6%). The school embraces its Title I designation to provide targeted support and resources to enhance student learning.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE EXPERIENCE IN:

  1. Implementing, supervising, and monitoring of standards based, equitable instruction 
  2. Supporting school leadership teams in developing long and short-range action plans for academic achievement
  3. Developing, supporting, guiding, and evaluating teachers and support personnel to ensure the academic achievement of all student groups and targeted student populations. 
  4. Providing instructional support by building the capacity of teachers in implementing effective strategies to teach all student groups and targeted populations, including English learners, foster youth, low-income students, standard English learners, gifted and talented students, and students with disabilities
  5. Leading teachers and other support personnel to ensure that the professional development plan and intervention services are aligned with the Single Plan for Student Achievement and the District’s Master Plan for English Learners 
  6. Creating a Master Schedule with alternative bell schedules, supporting counseling office and counseling services/supervising counselors, CTE pathways, full inclusion Special Education model, and concurrent enrollment
  7. Serving as an instructional team resource to schools, parents, and students 
  8. Leading school personnel in formulating, interpreting, and implementing the school’s administrative policies 
  9. Collaboratively implementing a plan for School-wide Positive Behavior Support that encourages students to set goals and to monitor their own behaviors
  10. Counseling students and recommending and implementing student intervention or disciplinary actions in accordance with the Education Code, District policy and procedures, and the school’s student responsibility code 
  11. Leading school personnel to meet state and federal mandates and to ensure instructional monitoring and compliance needs 
  12. Leading school personnel with the overall campus management, student services, extracurricular activities, and community affairs
  13. Well-developed understanding of the Teaching & Learning Framework as the common language for teacher development; ability to provide thoughtful and effective feedback to teachers through observation cycles
  14. Experience in planning and facilitating professional development with monitoring and implementation of effective research based instructional practices
  15. Experience in the development of a school wide WASC action plan that addresses identified areas for improvement and working with stakeholders on the completion of progress reports and/or reviews, and annual reports 

SALARY:

MST 46G - E Basis ($142,303 - $177,462) – 234 paid days

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school certificated service
  • Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
  • Two years of experience at a middle or senior high school
  • Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
