The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Shenandoah Street Elementary towards academic success.

 

Shenandoah Elementary School is committed to providing every student with standards-based instruction within a caring and nurturing environment that fosters social-emotional development. They strive for students to experience a well-rounded program that helps them develop 21st Century learning skills (critical thinking/problem solving, collaboration and communication). The school serves approximately 278 students in grades TK-5th: 88% Hispanic, 4% African American, 3% unknown, 2% white, 2% 2 or more/other ethnicities, 1% Asian, 1% Filipino, and 1% Pacific Islander. Of this population, 30% are Limited English Proficient, 16% receive Special Education services, and 92% are socioeconomically disadvantaged, including foster youth. The school is located at 2450 Shenandoah St, Los Angeles, CA 90034

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will be an innovative and compassionate leader with a commitment to serving the Shenandoah Elementary School Community. They will possess strong knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan, the California Common Core State Standards, the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, and the LAUSD School Leadership Framework. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to plan and facilitate professional development aligned to school and District goals; use data to lead stakeholders through cycles of improvement; and manage school operations effectively. They will also be experienced in implementing, supervising, and monitoring standards-based instruction; guiding school teams in developing action plans for academic achievement; and supporting teachers and staff in delivering high-quality instruction for all student groups, including English learners, foster youth, students with disabilities, and low-income students.  Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to foster relationships, cultivate a positive and joyful school culture, and build capacity among certificated and classified staff. The candidate should also be skilled in aligning professional development and intervention services with the Single Plan for Student Achievement and the District’s Master Plan for English Learners. In addition, they will support positive behavior systems, monitor compliance with state and federal mandates, and serve as a resource for students, staff, and families.

SALARY:

41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university               • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
