ABOUT THE SENIOR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF STRATEGY
The ideal candidate for the position of Senior Executive Director of Strategy is a visionary leader with a proven track record in strategic planning and business restructuring within large, complex organizations. This individual thrives in a dynamic, culturally diverse environment and excels at fostering collaboration among multiple stakeholders to drive organizational success.
A strong understanding of district policies, regulations, and governance structures is essential, as is expertise in organizational management, budgeting, staff development, and personnel administration. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, allowing them to identify challenges, develop innovative solutions, and evaluate outcomes to ensure continuous improvement.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can effectively facilitate group processes, build consensus, and resolve conflicts, all while navigating the complexities of an urban school district. The ability to communicate complex data and strategic initiatives clearly and persuasively—both in writing and in public presentations—is critical.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership in personnel management, ensuring compliance with merit system employment principles, employee relations best practices, and progressive discipline procedures. They will be adept at coordinating and aligning multiple departments, maintaining accurate records and reports, and driving data-informed decision-making.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
- Developing, directing and reviewing strategic, operational, and administrative projects to support change management, customer service, and an active learning environment District-wide.
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring strategies to position the District to better service students.
- Reviewing systems, processing, planning, and performance data to improve the overall delivery of services to students, parents, the community, and schools.
- Representing the District on professional, governmental, and community committees, task forces, commissions, and in problem solving conferences with parents, community groups, and governmental representatives.
- Overseeing the preparation and completion of reports and the analysis and interpretation of related data for District administrators, staff, and the public for effective decision making.
- Recommending the implementation of goals and objectives as well as proposed board policies to improve or promote strategic and innovative educational and operational programs.
- Advising the District administrators on regulations, policies, and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
Experience:
Five years of management experience in business, legal, policy, or operations experience preferably including the implementation and/or development of strategic plans.
Special:
A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.
Selective Certification:
Some positions may require special knowledge or experience for which selective certification may be made according to the Education Code Section 45277, AB2125. Verified competence in one or more of the following areas may be considered in filling some positions in the job classification:
- Strategic Planning, Program Evaluation, and Data Accountability (5 years)
- School Choice Models and Strategic Enrollment (5 years)

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score.
