The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to partner with and support the students, staff, and community at Saturn Street Elementary Arts and Media Magnet towards achieving academic success for all students.
Saturn Street Elementary is a neighborhood school and an active part of the Fairfax/Hollywood Network of Schools in the West Region. Saturn Street Elementary and Saturn Street Arts and Media Magnet serves over 269 students in grades TK-5 including a Resource Specialist program, Preschool for All Learners (PAL), and AUT-Core classes. In addition, Saturn Street has an Arts and Media Magnet for grades K-5. Saturn Street Elementary School engages families, partners and the community in building a learning environment for a culturally diverse population. Saturn Street has a student body comprised of 12.74% African American, 75.48% Latino, 3.82% White, 0.32% Asian, and 7.65% American Indian/Alaska Native, Unknown, and/or 2 or more other ethnicities. Approximately 21% of the students are English Learners, 36% are Students with Disabilities, and 100% qualify for Title I. 13 students are identified as Gifted and Talented. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will have exceptional communication skills and knowledge of the methodologies required for maintaining and further refining instructional practices in a school with a history of student achievement; a solid understanding of the Common Core State Standards, LAUSD School Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, and District Strategic Plan; the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development for all levels of personnel; experience working collaboratively with all stakeholders and demonstrates professionalism and respect in all interactions; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support the successful positive school-wide behavior plan. The ideal candidate will believe in a multidisciplinary approach; will have a passion for integrating the arts and technology into the curriculum; and successful experiences in building a collaborative, mutually respectful culture among all stakeholders with the shared focus on preparing students to excel in middle school, high school, and college and career. The ideal candidate will support enrichment programs as Saturn has unique partnerships with Disney Musicals in Schools and Play Works. In addition, the candidate will value diversity, build trusting relationships, be a problem solver, promote fairness, be flexible, have a growth mindset, focus on community, and believe in an inclusive environment.
SALARY:
41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
