The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS), to collaborate with the principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Reseda Charter School 6-12 towards academic excellence and success. Reseda Charter School 6-12 is a Span school covering grades 6-12 with an approximate enrollment of 1,400 students. The school population is approximately 71.83% Latino, 15.26% White, 4.31% Asian, 3.47% Black, 7% other. 88% low socio-economic status and 18% Emergent Bilingual students. Reseda includes a Police Academy Magnet, Science Magnet and an AMEM Magnet: Reseda Charter is located in Reseda area of the San Fernando Valley at 18230 Kittridge St. Reseda, CA 91335.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The Ideal Candidate will plan and provide leadership for the counseling and guidance program; have knowledge of counseling services, master scheduling and the role of the counseling office in a comprehensive Middle School and Senior High School; plan and organize allocated student personnel services time to provide for individual and group counseling of students in the areas of educational, personal and career needs; supervise attendance accounting and reporting; suggest curriculum changes, implement graduation requirements; share responsibility for providing instructional leadership in curriculum development and school resources to meet the needs of individual students; assist in making referrals and contacts; experience with District reporting systems and dashboards; experience in planning, designing, and implementing differentiated professional development, implementation of Corrective Reading, Support with Special Education; the ability to make formal, public presentations to various stakeholders; effective oral and written communication skills; the ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, linguistic, and disability groups; and knowledge of the instructional needs of English learners, foster youth, and low income students.
SALARY:
SALARY: 41G - B Basis ($119,477 – $149,036) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
