Under the direction of the Regional Administrator of Instruction, the Regional Coordinator, STEAM facilitates the District’s implementation of standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned to state standards; collaborates with central office, region, and school-site personnel; and leads or facilitates professional development and other instructional support structures to effectively implement instructional practices that ensure all K-12 students meet or exceed proficiency in STEAM.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops professional development materials (session-based, web-based, and web-hybrid instructional formats) that focuses on region initiatives, student engagement, and actionable feedback for science; and facilitates the implementation of the region professional development plan
- Reviews region data and works collaboratively with administrators and staff to identify instructional needs for the region its community of schools
- Coordinates and supports instructional activities of school-based staff
- Collaborates with region staff, regional directors, site administrators, content area coordinators, and teachers to organize and promote inter-disciplinary STEAM activities that promote a learner-centered learning environment
- Coordinates and provides coaching support to teachers and administrators in schools implementing STEAM including demonstration lessons, classroom visitations, and professional development across all grade levels
- Supports curriculum design integrating core curriculum into STEAM and supports its implementation throughout all of the region’s community of schools
- Analyzes current best practices in STEAM education; identifies, acquires, and catalogs STEAM programming for preview and demonstration purposes; coordinates the development, selection, and procurement of instructional materials and equipment
- Designs and guides personalized learning experiences for students that allow for student engagement and differentiated instructional outcomes and pacing
- Works with content experts within and outside the District to design and develop materials (in-person sessions, web-based, and blended instructional formats) to ensure successful implementation and ongoing support of STEAM
- Provides content and technical support to schools in the implementation of STEAM education
- Collaborates with the arts office to incorporate development, interpretation, and implementation of standards-based instructional programs in all four art forms as they are integrated into the science, engineering, mathematics, and technology curriculum at schools
- Works as part of a team with other members of the regions to support STEAM initiatives including cohesive implementation of the California content standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) Student Standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
SALARY:
41G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($141,102 – $176,010) – 261 paid days
NOTE: This position is effective on July 1, 2025 and will close on June 30, 2026.
- In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
- At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a leadership position(s) (e.g., coordinator, instructional coach, dean)
- At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school experience as a teacher in STEAM subjects
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential
- An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
- Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a STEAM leader providing professional development
- Experience teaching in one or more of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, or math) fields
- Knowledge of strong instructional design reflective of mastery-based and personalized learning
- Trained in Adaptive Schools’ Foundation
- CLAD/BCLAD certification
- Strong instructional design background reflective of mastery-based and personalized learning
- Experience with blended and online learning methodologies
- Experience with developing, organizing, and leading professional development activities that reflect a learner-centered learning environment and adult learning theory
- Experience designing and analyzing formative and summative assessments
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and experience with managing resistance throughout a change cycle
- Experience with STEAM education and pedagogy
- Knowledge of:
- District goals and Division of Instruction’s learning invitations
- California content standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and ISTE Student Standards
- Research-based instructional strategies, including personalized instruction
- Formative mastery-based assessment practices
- Program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to computer science programs
- Development and implementation of financial funding and grants to support STEAM programs
- Networking with local, regional, and national STEAM associations
- Cooperative learning structures to promote student engagement

- Knowledge and understanding of the instructional strategies that promote accelerated achievement of English learners, Standard English learners, at-risk students, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented education students
- Ability to use technology for data collection and analysis including generating reports and using protocols to facilitate teacher reflection
- Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
- Ability to travel to various sites throughout the District
