REGIONAL COORDINATOR, ETK-12 COUNSELING

41G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

 

Assists region and school staff in developing, implementing, and monitoring ETK–12 counseling services. Collaborates and partners with other pupil services staff, community organizations, and agencies to ensure data-driven, results-based counseling support services and programs for all ETK–12 students.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides supervision to counselors in matters regarding graduation, college entrance requirements, and scholarships
  • Trains community of schools administrators, directors, principals, and site-based administrators on developing student knowledge, skills, and attitudes that promote personal, social, emotional, and academic growth
  • Provides training and guidance to counselors on strategies to provide individual and group counseling and guidance to students in the academic, personal-social, and career domains
  • Develops and delivers professional development on using District data systems to collect and analyze data relative to attendance, behavior, and achievement
  • Works with counselors and assistant principals to understand the scheduling tools in MiSiS including Maintenance Reports for Master Schedule
  • Develops and delivers professional development on strategies to communicate assessment results to students, parents, and teachers
  • Develops and delivers professional development on strategies to guide students to effectively utilize the educational opportunities of the school; recommends available resources within the school, school system, and community to meet the needs of individual students; and assists in making such referrals and contacts
  • Develops and delivers professional development on strategies to maintain accurate records documenting student progress towards graduation
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SALARY:

41G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($141,102 – $176,010) – 261 paid days

NOTE: This position will close on June 30, 2026.

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits. However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a leadership position(s) (e.g. coordinator, instructional coach, dean)
  • At least two (2) years of successful, full-time public school service in a counseling position(s)
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful experience as a principal or assistant principal
  • Extensive knowledge of the MiSiS platform
  • Knowledge of and experience in the fundamental principles and accepted practices, current trends, and research in the field of school counseling, child welfare and attendance, and child development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the A-G requirements
  • Expertise in developmental transitions that promotes successful vertical articulation of students (e.g., ETK to grades 1-5 to grades 6-8 to grades 9-12)
  • Experience in building a student-centered Master Schedule
  • Leadership skill in facilitating group processes, including consensus building and conflict resolution
  • Experience in designing and delivering professional development using adult learning theory
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the District
