JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
A Region Administrative Assistant supports a Region Superintendent (RS), Administrator of Operations (AOO), and/or Administrator of Instruction (AI) in a Region by performing a combination of the following duties:
- Assists a Region administrator in managing the various aspects of the Region by assessing and analyzing pertinent information such as the Performance Meter, Targeted Assistance Report, the Educator Growth and Development initiative, and critical iStars entries; and creating a seamless interface between the operations, parent engagement, and instructional divisions.
- Liaises with schools and offices through established crisis protocols and procedures.
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Region and coordinates the clerical procedures, practices, and staff.
- Explains District rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and practices to school personnel and the public, often speaking on behalf of the administrator.
- Composes and types drafts and a wide variety of finished documents from notes or printed materials; reviews materials for completeness, accuracy, format, and compliance with policies and procedures with minimal supervision or brief instructions.
- Organizes and conducts meetings and training sessions related to clerical policies and procedures and staff development for School Administrative Assistants or clerical personnel.
- Reviews, researches, and summarizes a variety of fiscal, statistical, budget, and administrative reports such as department payroll, time keeping reports, supply requisitions, and requests for personnel actions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED
A promotional candidate is a current or former LAUSD employee who has attained permanent status in the Classified Service by completing the required probationary period in a job classification, or who holds permanent status in the Certificated Service, or an LAUSD employee who has been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which they passed probation. Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities may not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.
Permanent status in the Classified Service is generally achieved after 130 days of paid service, except for executive, administrative, or peace-officer classes, where the probationary period is 260 days of paid service or one year, whichever is longer. A former employee who is not reinstated, but is appointed from an eligibility list must serve a probationary period in the same manner as a new employee.
EDUCATION
Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.
EXPERIENCE
Four years of administrative assistance experience and two years of supervisory experience. The supervisory experience and the administrative assistance experience may have been concurrent. Experience in an instructional or school operations environment is highly preferable.
SPECIAL
The ability to speak a second language may be required for some positions in this classification.

Ideal candidates for Region Administrative Assistant will possess the following:

The ability to use computers with Microsoft operating systems and word processing, data bases, and spreadsheet software.

Knowledge of District data reports, incentives, and performance meter targets.

Knowledge of District policies and procedures for instructional, operational, and administrative programs .

The ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.

The ability to access and navigate pertinent District systems.

Knowledge of provisions of federal and State employment related laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.

The ability to make sound decisions and work under pressure .
EMPLOYMENT SELECTION PROCESS
We anticipate receiving a number of well-qualified applicants for this position; therefore, there will be a competitive process. The employment selection process for Region Administrative Assistant may consist of a a computerized performance assessment, a writing project, a technical interview, and other test parts as needed.
TESTING PROCESS

You will be invited to take these assessments online and testing will be conducted remotely and all applications will be required to submit a Candidate Confidentiality Form prior to testing. Failure to submit these forms before the given deadline will result in the withdrawal of your application from the selection process.
- The computerized performance assessment (Skill Check) may assess your proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Powerpoint.

Your test scores from these assessments will be banked and used for final calculation.

You must receive PASSING SCORES on all TEST MODULES, for all the assessments, to remain in the selection process.

Candidates who receive a failing score on any test module will NOT be eligible to move forward in the selection process.

The technical interview may be worth 100% of a candidate's overall score and will be used to rank order candidates on the resulting eligibility list. The writing project will be evaluated in conjunction with your interview.

If you are successful on all the assessments and meet the minimum education and experience requirement, you will be added to the eligibility list provided you submit necessary documantation when requested during the recruitment process.
