The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, TK-12, to lead the students, staff, and community at the New Open World (NOW) Academy School towards academic excellence.
New Open World (NOW) Academy is one of six pilot schools located at the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools campus. It is an innovative learning environment that prepares all students for college, work, and civic participation. NOW serves approximately 750 TK-12th grade students on a traditional calendar. NOW’s vision centers around technology, social justice, and students being ecologically conscious. We are a school community that welcomes innovation, honors the past, transforms the future, commands achievement, and empowers all students through the use of technology. Student demographics include 86% Latino, 7% Asian, 2% African American, 2% Filipino, 35% English Learners, 12% Students with Disabilities, and 97% Economically Disadvantaged. The school is located at 3201 West 8th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90010. The guiding principle that drives NOW Academy is the belief that all students deserve the school’s best effort in providing a safe, stimulating, enriched learning environment where every child thrives. This includes a focus on academic excellence within research-supported instructional strategies, strong teacher collaboration, high expectations of achievement in core content areas, and community involvement. NOW Academy personalizes learning for each student using an inclusive model where all students are encouraged to maximize their full potential.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The Ideal Candidate will have respect for all learners through commitment and empathy; a passion for supporting students with diverse needs; experience with supervising and monitoring an instructional program (TK-12) in a pilot school model that is supported by the Education Transformation Office (ETO); experience with providing professional development; knowledge of district, state, and national student assessment; knowledge of budgets and student scheduling, including categorical programs and meeting the needs of students with disabilities, GATE, and English Learners; a commitment to a full inclusion program for all students; working collaboratively with the RFK Community School principals; and knowledge of and experience with parent, community, and global engagement.
SALARY:
SALARY: 46G - E Basis ($142,303– $177,462) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the district resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individuals may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program.
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school and/or middle school, and/or high school
- Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
