Portola Middle School, Highly Gifted Magnet, and Academy of Integrated Arts & Technology is located at 18720 Linnet Street in Tarzana, California, and a part of the Select Middle School Network. Portola Middle School is a large, comprehensive middle school that currently serves approximately 1500 students from grades 6th-8th. It is a Title I school serving a diverse population; 47% White, 31% Hispanic, 4% African American/Black, and 11% Asian with 5% of the enrollment representing other ethnicities. Approximately 6% of Portola's students are identified as Emergent Bilinguals, with Spanish, Farsi, Russian, and Hebrew being the most common home languages within the Emergent Bilinguals population.
Portola Highly Gifted Magnet serves approximately 250 students who have all been identified as Highly Gifted or Highly Gifted Applicable, and the Academy of Integrated Art & Technology serves approximately 126 students identified as gifted or twice exceptional. The teachers, staff, administrators, parents, students, and community are a partnership dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing and supportive learning environment.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will contribute to a culture of collaboration, interdependence, and mutual accountability; have in-depth knowledge and experiences with diverse populations of students; be committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders with a purpose of fostering a school environment that promotes academic achievement, social-emotional growth, safety and cleanliness, and create strong partnerships with parents and the community; will be responsible for developing and maintaining the master schedule, developing the matrix, and ensuring that students are fully and accurately scheduled; have effective oral and written communication skills; have knowledge of State, Federal, and LAUSD policies, procedures, and regulations; have knowledge and experience with standards based instruction, the Teaching and Learning Framework, the Master Plan for Emergent Bilinguals; be able to conduct classroom observations and provide actionable feedback for improved performance; have experience in planning, designing, and implementing professional development; have experience with school operations and school budget preparation and planning; and have excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines.
SALARY:
SALARY: 40G - B Basis ($116,751 – $145,407) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

- Experience interpreting data to make instructional decisions to develop a master schedule that ensured a culturally and responsive instructional program that resulted in student achievement
- Experience supporting the instructional program at a school using the Teaching and Learning framework and implementation of progress monitoring tools to support academic growth
- Experience effectively supporting diverse populations i.e special education, English Learners, BSAP, various specialized student populations, toward meeting higher proficiency levels
