The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding K-12 Principal to partner with and support the students, staff, and community at Porter Ranch Community School (PRCS) towards achieving academic success for all students.

 

Porter Ranch Community School is a high-achieving elementary and middle school located in Porter Ranch, serving students from Transitional- kindergarten through 8th grade. The school opened in August 2012 and shortly after earned an API score of 924 and the student body grew to over 1200 students. One of the school's distinctive features is its Korean Dual Language Program (KDLP), which focuses on developing communicative and academic second language proficiency. PRCS has community partners and tremendous parent volunteers.  They are a diverse pilot school.  Porter Ranch Community School has received recognition for its academic excellence, including being designated as a California Distinguished School.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will have experience creating a positive school climate by supporting positive student behavior outcomes and Restorative Justice practices, maintaining student discipline, and having a solid understanding of school operations and facilities, attendance, and enrollment. Additional desirable experiences include instructional leadership and knowledge of elementary and secondary instructional programs.  Skills in leading an instructional program, including facilitating group processes, consensus building, and conflict resolution are desirable.  Experience supporting students with special needs inclusively and the capacity to lead, direct, supervise, coach, and evaluate teachers and staff.  The ability to effectively engage with family and the community is essential as well.

SALARY:

45G - E Basis ($141.159– $176,037) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the district resolves an under or overpayment).

Selected individuals may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school and/or middle school, and/or high school
  • Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching.
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. To be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
