The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Special Education to partner with the Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Alfonso B. Perez Special Education Center/CTC towards achieving academic success for all students.
Perez Career & Transition Center/CTC, a 2025 California PBIS Platinum Implementation Award winning school, is located in East Los Angeles. Perez is designed to serve students with moderate to profound disabilities, ranging from ages 18 to 22-years-old. The 237 students at Perez have the following eligibilities: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) 46%, Multiple Disabilities (22 MDO {Orthopedic}/3 MDV {Visual}) 11%, Other: (3 Other Health Impaired {OHI}, 1 Orthopedic Impairment {OI}) 2%. Perez Special Education Learning Center's mission is to maximize every student’s potential for success in adult life. The Career and Transition Center (CTC) provides rigorous vocational training and instructional programs for students with disabilities, ages 18-22 on the modified core curriculum. The CTC pathways offer options that prepare students to become contributing members of society, while enlightening the community to the value that people with disabilities have to society. Using assessment and standards-based and targeted instruction, students are provided training and given real-world work experiences at local businesses and job sites. These post-high school opportunities for students to develop pre-employment, employment, self-care, and self-advocacy skills maximize their potential to participate fully and successfully in their communities. Perez Career & Transition Center is located at 4540 Michigan Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90022.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
We are seeking an innovative, systems-oriented, and collaborative leader who brings strong systems for Special Education compliance (IEPs, IDEA, and alternate curriculum), along with the ability to build capacity within teams, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and the Instructional Leadership Team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate instructional leadership experience to support vocational, academic, and life-skills instruction, while also providing coaching and mentorship to staff through data-driven feedback. Knowledge of school operations—including attendance, safety, scheduling, and budgets—is essential, as are excellent communication skills with students, families, staff, and community partners. Above all, the candidate must be committed to equity, inclusion, and preparing students for post- secondary readiness.
SALARY:
37G - B Basis ($107,989 - $134,504) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years directly working in a special education school, special education class, or in a similar situation working directly with students with disabilities
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*
*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement
For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
