The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal Elementary to collaborate with, support, and lead the students, staff, and community of Open Magnet Charter towards academic excellence.

 

Open Magnet Charter is LAUSD’s first K-5 elementary charter, honored as a California Distinguished School, a recipient of multiple Magnet School of Merit awards, and a recipient of the Los Angeles Educational Partnership Excellence Award. The school serves approximately 378 students in grades TK-5th, of which 29% are white, 26% African-American, 19% Hispanic, 12% 2 or more/other ethnicities, 8% unknown, 5% Asian, and 1% Filipino. Of this population, 35% include Black Student Achievement Program (BSAP), 14% receive Special Education services, and 23% are economically disadvantaged, including foster youth. The school is located in the Westchester Community at 5540 West 77th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will embrace Open School’s constructivist, student-centered educational philosophy; foster team-based teaching and develop thematic, multi-age Common Core aligned curriculum;  possess in-depth knowledge of the LAUSD Strategic Plan and Teaching and Learning Framework; implement  project/problem-based learning, demonstrate culturally and linguistically competence; cultivate a respectful, community-focused environment supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students; strengthen parent-teacher partnerships via the Governing Council and guide decisions using the school’s charter petition; manage the budget strategically and actively seek alternate funding; possess extensive knowledge of best practices.

SALARY:

Salary:    MST 40G - E Basis ($123,618- $153,691) – 234 paid days

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school certificated service
  • Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
  • Two years of experience at an elementary school
  • Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                         • Multicultural coursework*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
