The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to collaborate with, support and lead the students, staff, and community at Mid-City’s Prescott of Enriched Sciences towards academic excellence.
Mid-City’s Prescott of Enriched Sciences is in the rich historic West Adams area. Mid-City is a small magnet school that serves approximately 220 students in grades 1st - 5th, including a Resource Specialist program. 81% of the students are economically disadvantaged, 9% English Learners, 13% students with disabilities and 14% are identified as Gifted and Talented. Mid-City’s has a diverse student body comprised of approximately 17% African American, 64% Hispanic, and 6% Anglo, 4% Asian and 9% other population. It is a small campus with an outdoor classroom, mature trees, and a grassy quad where most school events are held. The school is located at 3150 West Adams Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90018.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The Ideal Candidate will lead with a collaborative nature and seeks to understand all stakeholders and the needs of the school. One who has an understanding and knowledge of the Superintendent's strategic plan including each pillar and how they fit into the operation of the school. Additionally, the candidate needs to know about guidelines and expectations of Common Core State Standards, the LAUSD Leadership Framework, LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, English Learner Master Plan, Special Education Programs, and District Instructional goals; the ability to supervise and evaluate the instructional program and facilitate professional development of all levels of personnel; experience working with all stakeholders and demonstrate professionalism and respect in all interactions; willingness to delegate responsibilities as they relate to our school’s climate and committee structure; strong and effective planning and organizational skills; the ability to work independently; excellent time management skills; the ability to multi-task while meeting commitments and deadlines; the ability to interpret data to inform decisions and develop action plans that will result in continuous and sustainable school budgets; and the ability to support the successful positive school-wide behavior plan. The ideal candidate will believe in a multidisciplinary approach and will reinforce student engagement and leadership; and support the sciences, technology, arts, mathematics. The ideal candidate must be willing to work collaboratively with a diverse staff, a Parent Center Representative, and the community at-large to promote the school’s values as an Integrated School. The ideal candidate will be fair and kind, always put students first, be an effective communicator, transparent, and will demonstrate empathy and integrity.
SALARY:
SALARY: 40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
