JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

A Marketing Representative, under general supervision, develops, plans, supervises, and participates in a wide variety of marketing activities, projects, and studies related to marketing and public relations for a branch. 

 

Typical Duties Include:

  • Conducting market research using a variety of techniques such as surveys and comparisons to competitor’s product.
  • Performing market research activities to provide information relating to sales potential and market conditions for the organization’s products or services.
  • Writing, designing, and editing marketing and promotional materials such as marketing brochures, sales kits, flyers, and other promotional materials; and coordinating special marketing events.
  • Researching and summarizing data to provide management statistical reports and recommendations, and assisting with the development of marketing plans.
  • Supervising the work of staff assisting in strategic marketing activities, projects, and studies.
  • Implementing marketing strategies to meet organizational objectives by evaluating customer research, market conditions, and competitor data; and consulting with administrators to modify marketing plans as needed.
  • Conducting, or assisting in conducting portions of market research activities to identify targeted populations and to identify the appropriate media for distribution of promotional information.
  • Maintaining database records and files including mailing lists and publication distribution information.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED

You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.

 

Laid-off employees' eligibility as a promotional candidate expires at the end of their 39 month period; as such, laid-off employees applying for promotional career opportunities man not be eligible to complete the assessment process or may be removed from the employment eligibility list once their eligibility as a promotional candidate expires.

 

EDUCATION

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, English, communications, public or business administration, or a closely related field.

 

EXPERIENCE

Total of four years of experience in marketing, including one year of experience providing work direction, involving the design, development and implementation of marketing programs and the writing and placing of news releases, advertisements, prospectuses, or news and feature articles for various communications media.

Additionally, completion of the District’s Exceptional Supervisor Certificate Program may substitute the one year of the required work direction experience.

 

SPECIAL

  1. A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California.
  2. The use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the Marketing Representative position is a creative and results-driven professional with a strong foundation in strategic marketing, public relations, and community outreach. They possess demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive marketing and information programs that engage diverse audiences and effectively promote services and initiatives.

 

This individual has in-depth knowledge of data analysis and research techniques, including statistical analysis and multi-faceted market research, and is skilled at using insights to drive strategic decisions. The ideal candidate is proficient in Microsoft Office and database support tools and brings an understanding of budgetary practices and procedures to support efficient program management.

 

Adept at developing collaborative projects and building support among various stakeholders, including District personnel and private-sector partners, the ideal candidate is also an effective communicator—both in writing and in person—and can confidently represent the organization in public forums. With the ability to design and deliver impactful presentations across multiple media platforms, including social media, this candidate has a proven ability to market products and services successfully while evaluating program performance for continuous improvement.

 

They are detail-oriented, organized, and capable of operating within fast-paced environments. Experience supervising staff and preparing proposals for new programs rounds out this well-qualified and dynamic marketing professional.

EMPLOYMENT SELECTION PROCESS

The employment selection process for Marketing Representative may consist of an online scored questionnaire, a technical writing project, and a technical interview. 

 

TESTING PROCESS

  • You will be invited to take these assessments online and testing will be conducted remotely and all applications will be required to submit a Candidate Confidentiality Form prior to testing. Failure to submit these forms before the given deadline will result in the withdrawal of your application from the selection process.
  • Your test scores from these assessments will be banked and used for final calculation.
  • You must receive PASSING SCORES on all TEST MODULES, for all the assessments, to remain in the selection process.
  • Candidates who receive a failing score on any test module will NOT be eligible to move forward in the selection process.
  • The technical interview may be worth 100% of a candidate's overall score and will be used to rank order candidates on the resulting eligibility list. The writing project and presentation will be evaluated in conjunction with your interview.
  • If you are successful on all the assessments and meet the minimum education, experience, and special requirements, you will be added to the eligibility list provided you submit your Bachelor's degree or proof of High School completion/equivalency when requested during the recruitment process.
