The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Secondary Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Marina Del Rey Middle School towards academic success.
Marina del Rey Middle School & Performing Arts Magnet is a dynamic 6th–8th grade campus located in the vibrant Marina del Rey community at 12500 Braddock Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90066. The school is committed to supporting 21st-century learning through ongoing facility enhancements and innovative academic programming.
Serving approximately 300 students, Marina del Rey reflects the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of its community. The student population is 59% Latinx, 28% African American/Black, 5% White, 1% Pacific Islander, 1% Asian, 1% Filipino, and 1% American Indian, with 8% English Learners, 20% students in special education, and 15% identified as Gifted and Talented.
The campus is home to two distinctive magnet programs—the Performing Arts Magnet and the Marine Science Academy—and will expand its academic pathways with the launch of Spanish Immersion classes in the 2026–2027 school year. As both a designated Community School and a Group 1 BSAP (Black Student Achievement Program) school, Marina del Rey is deeply committed to equity, access, and student success.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
is a visionary instructional leader who demonstrates a deep commitment to equity, access, and excellence for all students. They will bring a strong background in curriculum and instruction with proven success in raising achievement for historically underserved student groups and cultivating high levels of academic rigor across all content areas. They are data-driven, using performance metrics to inform instruction and improvement strategies, and have a proven ability to observe, evaluate, and coach teachers using district-aligned frameworks.
As the school expands innovative academic pathways—including the Performing Arts Magnet, Marine Science Academy, and the upcoming Spanish Immersion program—the principal must be able to lead with creativity, adaptability, and a clear vision for program integration that connects learning to students’ futures.
A successful candidate will be a collaborative and transparent communicator, engaging families, staff, and community partners in decision-making and school improvement efforts. Above all, the ideal principal is a student-centered leader who inspires staff, motivates students, and unites the community in a shared mission.
SALARY:
44G – E Basis ($137,393- $171,333) - 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

- Eight years of successful full-time public school certificated service
- Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
- Two years of experience at a middle or senior high school
- Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
