Francisco Sepulveda Middle School (FSMS) is Title I school (91%) located in North Hills, serving approximately 980 students in grades 6 through 8. Our student population is approximately 89% Hispanic/Latino, 2% White, 2% Asian, 2% Filipino, 3% African American, 1% Pacific Islander and 1% identifying as two or more races. Of our total enrollment, approximately 17% are Emergent Bilingual, 19% are Students with Disabilities, and 26% are identified as Gifted. FSMS features three magnet programs, a Gifted Magnet, Kinesiology Magnet, and a Medical - Science Magnet program. The school operates on a traditional 8-period day, block schedule and offers extensive elective and enrichment opportunities, including music, art, leadership, and academic intervention programs. FSMS exemplifies a strong academic culture that promotes student agency, inclusivity, and equity. Through a collaborative school community and data-informed practices, the school prepares all students to be innovative thinkers and lifelong learners.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The Ideal Candidate will be an innovative, collaborative and inclusive leader with the ability to partner with the staff, the community, and an active student and parent community. Francisco Sepulveda Middle School is looking for a leader who has had extensive leadership experience successfully leading a school through transformational change. The principal will have knowledge and experience implementing effective instruction, operations, budget, and student-centered programs with the use of data for growth and impact. The ideal candidate will lead all stakeholders towards increased student outcomes; have strong skills in leading instructional programs; guide teachers in implementing rigorous, engaging, targeted, differentiated, culturally relevant curriculum; possess strong planning, organizational skills, and creative problem-solving abilities; be an effective communicator with strong listening and interpersonal skills; and be an architect of change by modeling and encouraging effective practices.

 

Key attributes of the ideal candidate include:

•Demonstrated success with academic programs for all students

•Experience with implementing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), behavior intervention strategies, and restorative practices by leading the Coordination of Services Team (COST)

•Ability to manage high-pressure situations, prioritize competing demands, and lead with clarity and confidence

•Instructional leadership expertise, including designing and delivering professional development that improves pedagogy and supports educator growth

•Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders

•Familiarity with LAUSD instructional technology platforms and databases such as MiSiS, Schoology, Focus Dashboard, Power BII Dashboard and Whole Child 2.0 Dashboard

•Knowledge of A-G graduation requirements, Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs), and college and career pathways

Ability to lead data analysis conversations that identify student needs and drive instructional and programmatic decisions

 

SALARY:

SALARY: 45G - E Basis ($141,159 - $176,037) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in only middle/senior high school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
