Vacancies for the Food Service Manager V position are currently in the East Los Angeles area.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Food Service Manager V typical duties include:
- Supervising and participating in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food for students and faculty.
- Maintaining food quality standards, including appearance and taste.
- Planning menus and follows standardized recipes and approved price and portion schedules.
- Supervising food service personnel by setting up work schedules, assigning and directing work, evaluating work performance, counseling, recommending disciplinary action, and participating in on-the-job training of food service personnel and student employees.
- Ordering food and supplies and ensures the availability of required items, proper storage and use.
- Checking goods received against requisitions and invoices and contacts Stores Section personnel and direct-delivery vendors to correct errors.
- Monitoring production reports to determine future ordering, storage, sales, and student participation for cost effectiveness and efficiency.
- Taking daily and monthly inventories of food and supplies.
- Utilizing cost control procedures to avoid unwarranted cafeteria operations costs.
- Following approved Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) housekeeping and safety practices to ensure that sanitary working conditions are maintained in food service environments.
- Preparing, forwarding, and maintaining files of records and reports required by the Food Services Branch.
- Obtaining and reviewing financial records, identifying discrepancies, and confering with the school’s Financial Manager regarding taking the corrective actions necessary and reconciling daily reports.
- Initiating requests for equipment repairs or replacement and pest control services and maintains service records.
- Implementing security measures to prevent vandalism and theft.
- Responsible for all cash deposits, follows cash handling procedures, and ensures that daily bank deposits are made by authorized personnel.
- Maintaining daily records of hours worked by employees.
- Preparing various correspondence and/or documentation regarding employee conduct.
- Ensuring that meals meet federal, State and District meal requirements.
- Following prescribed procedures to protect the anonymity of students who receive free or reducedprice meals.
- Responsible for processing applications for free and reduced-price meals; issuing, selling and accounting for meal tickets; and doing general clerical work in the cafeteria.
- Promoting the food service program with innovative marketing techniques by obtaining input from students and adult customers.
- Ensuring that proper customer service is provided by food service staff.
- Providing information concerning food service programs to community groups, parents, students, and District personnel.
- May operate special feeding programs for other locations.
- May provide food service for special events as requested by school administrators and approved by the Food Services Branch.
- May be responsible for entering and retrieving meal eligibility and participation data on an office computer.
- May transport food and supplies between locations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency and evidence of successful completion of adult school, college-level, or equivalent courses supervision.
Experience: 3 year(s) of experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation, including the serving of a major meal component of at least 400 meals per day. One year of the required experience must have been in a position supervising food service personnel. Experience in food service ordering procedures and food service record keeping is preferable.
Special: A valid “ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate”, issued by the National Restaurant Association or equivalent. A valid Los Angeles Unified School District Food Handler’s Heath Certificate. A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation may be required for some positions. Successful completion of a two week Managers Certification Course (MCC) upon initial assignment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
An ideal candidate will have experience: planning balanced menus, following safety procedures, and assisting staff; communicating effectively in writing, operating office computer systems, and keeping accurate records through the usage of arithmetic computations; handling complaints and issues as they arise, in a thoughtful, cordial manner; striving to meet the needs and expectations of customers and employees; adjusting priorities to changing situations; considering conflicting needs and options to reach a sound conclusion; has the ability to understand the importance of attendance and the impact it has on the LAUSD community; and developing and maintaining work relationships to contribute to a positive work environment.
EMPLOYMENT SELECTION PROCESS
The employment selection process of this position tentatively consists of the following: An application screening for the minimum qualifications, a computer-based multiple-choice test, and an interview. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications screening and pass the multiple-choice test will be invited to participate in the interview.
RETAKE POLICY: In accordance with our assessment retake policy, applicants who have taken the Food Service Manager computerized multiple-choice test during the last four (4) months will not be invited to take it again. Instead, the previously obtained test scores will be applied towards the Food Service Manager position. Candidates who take the Food Service Manager computerized multiple-choice test more than once within a period of four (4) months, will be disqualified from this employment selection process and may not be eligible to take the assessment for one year. Scores on this computerized multiple-choice test may apply towards future assessments for other classifications within the Food Service Manager series (Food Service Manager I,II, III, IV, V, VI and VII) for which a person may apply. Candidates who have previously take then computerized multiple-choice and passed but were not successful on the technical interview will have to wait 4 months from the date of technical interview to retest.
