The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at the Flournoy STEAM Magnet and Dual Language School towards academic excellence.  Flournoy Elementary School serves students from TK through 5th grade and has a student population of approximately 380 students of which 70% are Hispanic, 26% are African American, 26% are English Learners, 16% special needs, and 3% are foster and unhoused youth.  As a school-wide Title I school serving 95% of students who are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged, the stakeholders of Flournoy Elementary recognize the need to assist students in their efforts to meet proficiency in all academic and support their social and emotional development.  In addition to the above, Flournoy continues to foster a strong, caring, and collaborative environment among parents, administration, teachers, and staff actively working together to ensure students realize their greatest potential. The school is located at 1630 E. 111th, Los Angeles, CA 90059.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will be a progressive and innovative leader who will have in-depth knowledge and experiences with diverse populations of students, parents, and community; be collaborative with all stakeholders to foster a school environment that promotes academic achievement, equity, and social-emotional wellness. Additionally, the leader should prioritize school safety and cleanliness. The candidate should have a firm belief that all students can and will achieve at Flournoy Elementary School; knowledge of research-based best instructional practices; a well-developed understanding of the Teaching and Learning Framework; the ability to provide meaningful effective feedback to teachers. The candidate must have knowledge and be able to support teachers with application of the CA State Standards in ELA, ELD, and Mathematics, the Mathematical Practices, Next Generation Science Standards, NGSS Cross-Cutting Concepts, Project Based Learning; best practices and application for effective instruction; experience in planning, designing, and implementing differentiated professional development; the ability to make formal, public presentations to various stakeholders; experience supervising instructional staff and paraprofessionals; the ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, linguistic, and disability groups; experience with MiSiS, Welligent, Schoology, Whole Child platform and other district reporting systems; able to recognize and implement the instructional needs of Students with Disabilities i.e., IEP process and monitoring of Special Education compliance; knowledge of trauma informed best practices, Restorative Justice, and the school wide positive behavior and intervention process; knowledge of the Master Plan to support English learners; able to support low income students; the ability to be collaborative and unite stakeholders to build consensus and develop ownership of student learning and achievement; have outstanding and effective oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and problem solving abilities; successful experience with school operations, budget preparation and planning; and a desire to build strong and caring parent and community partnerships. Bilingual skills are desirable.

SALARY:

42G - E Basis ($129,897 - $162,207) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university               • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

    • How have you effectively supported diverse populations i.e., special education, English Learners, various specialized student populations, toward meeting higher proficiency levels?
