The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services, to lead the students, staff, and community at Fairfax Senior High School towards academic excellence.
Fairfax Senior High School has over 1450 students from diverse backgrounds. There are four schools which includes three magnets (Visual Arts, Police Academy, & newly Gifted/High Ability Gifted) and multiple programs including Advanced Via Individual Determination (AVID), International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP), Korean/Spanish Dual Language Program, multiple CTE Pathways, Black Student Achievement Plan (BSAP), Concurrent/Dual Enrollment, and more. There are over 87.4% of students on Free/Reduced Lunch Program. 56.8% Hispanic, 13.5% African American/Black, 11.7% Asian, 11.4% White, 28% GATE Enrollment, 10% English Learners, and 14% students with disabilities.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will have experience with high school counseling, programming, standard-based instruction, A-G Implementation, data analysis, parent and community engagement and differentiated professional development; possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills (Bilingual in Spanish is desirable); ability to work effectively and collaboratively with instructional leaders, students, staff, and the community; must have the skill to work with complex structures within the school to service the needs of all students; experience with school safety and school discipline is desirable. This individual will have knowledge of programs such as Title 1, English Language Learners, Special Education, and the Magnet Program.
SALARY:
41G - B Basis ($119,477 – $149,036) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

- Strengthening the Counseling Team by improving efficiency and providing targeted training
