DIRECTOR, SPECIAL EDUCATION INFANT & PRE-SCHOOL

SUPPORT SERVICES

45G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

 

Under the direction of the Executive Director, Special Education or their administrative designee, the duties include, but are not limited to, the -following for LAUSD District-operated schools:

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs the functions and services of infant/preschool special education programs in cooperation with other District offices and outside agencies involved in the educational needs of eligible infants and preschool children
  • Directs “Search and Serve” and related activities for determining eligibility and service provision for eligible infants and preschool children in compliance with state and federal mandates
  • Oversees data analysis to guide changes to programs, communications, policies and operational procedures to ensure increased accountability and efficiency in the operation of programs for infant and preschool students with disabilities
  • Analyzes and uses data to guide training and staff development programs and activities
  • Supervises the collection of data and preparation of reports for the California Department of Education
  • Collaborates in the preparation of District and specially funded budgets for infant and preschool programs and activities
  • Coordinates with units within the District for matters related to personnel, contracts, purchasing, maintenance and operations, and others matters related to providing services to infant and preschool children with special needs
  • Coordinates the preparation of inter-agency agreements with Head Start, Department of Developmental Services regional centers, and other programs providing services to infant and preschool students with disabilities
  • Promotes understanding of infant and preschool special education services through participation in and presentation to community-based organizations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SALARY:

45G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($157,448 – $196,350) – 261 paid days

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits.  However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior successful experience as a school site principal
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and state special education laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of District special education policies, procedures, and programs
  • Understanding of laws and regulations pertaining to delivery of infant and pre-school services
  • Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including experience presenting to large groups
  • Experience with Welligent, My Data, and variety of mapping and software for organizing records
  • Ability to utilize computer technology and effectively analyze data
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other offices, school sites, parents, and community agencies
  • Ability to travel to other sites/locations
