DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Under the direction of Chief Academic Officer, the Director, Community Schools will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of the Community Schools Initiative.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads and supports Community Schools to develop an instructional and performance assessment program aligned to the District Strategic Plan, goals and instructional priorities
- Develops, guides, supports, and monitors leadership and advocacy for all students to have positive learning opportunities through the implementation of the Community Schools Model and Framework
- Directs the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of District-wide policies and procedures for the Community Schools Initiative
- Directs the implementation, expansion, evaluation, and monitoring of the Community Schools Initiative in collaboration with the Community Schools Steering Committee (CSSC)
- Develops and maintains an infrastructure for coordination of Community School Initiatives, and supports schools as they plan, create, and implement programs and activities that address diverse students’ needs
- Collaborates with regions teams to provide quality Community Schools programs that demonstrate coherence and consistent program implementation
- Assesses the pedagogical details of the Community School Initiatives implemented at the schools’ sites, helping schools set and meet key objectives
- Leads professional development for adult learners
CONTINUE - PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represents the District in collaboration with community-based organizations including city, state, and federal agencies in the development of partnerships to support the Community Schools Initiative
- Collaborates with school principals, labor partners, staff relations and other District departments to ensure understanding and implementation of Community School polices, labor contracts, and grant requirements
- Represents the District on multi-agency panels and with labor partners engaged in the Community Schools work
- Leads the advocacy and leadership to form partnerships with community based organizations and agencies for out-of-school enrichment and extended day programs
- Establishes and maintains outside funding sources to enhance, augment, and expand programs offered to existing Community schools and to expand to additional cohorts of Community Schools
- Establishes and maintains effective communication with schools, families and community partners regarding accountability for results and ensures all involved in activities promote and are aligned with District student achievement goals
- Administers the Community Schools Initiative budget and manages grant budgets
- Evaluates the performance of staff
- Performs other duties as assigned
SALARY:
Salary: 46G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($158,723 – $197,937) – 261 paid days
NOTE: This position will close on June 30, 2026.
- In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e. the process by which the District resolves an under of overpayment).
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions due to budget limitations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
- At least eight (8) school years of successful, full-time public-school service in a certificated position (s), with no fewer than three (3) years of which must have been as a school principal
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential
- An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
- Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least five years serving as an administrator in a diverse and high-needs school community which includes a track record of improved school performance in a transformation or hard to staff learning communities with a track record of improved student achievement for all subgroups
- Ability to create and strengthen partnerships with all stakeholders
- Experience working with Community Schools
- Experience in planning, organizing and implementing professional development
- Successful experience with supervision and evaluation of staff
- Knowledge of District policy and procedures in guiding schools
- Knowledge of and experience in the interpretation of assessment data to inform instruction
- Knowledge of and skill in instructional technology to enhance student learning
- Knowledge of and experience in using the Teaching and Learning Framework and School Leadership Framework as a coaching and professional development tool
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with instructional staff, parents, and community members
- Strong oral and written communication skills
