COORDINATOR, STUDENT HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

(Student Support Programs Emphasis)

This position will be responsible for coordinating, executing, and overseeing the operations of the Student Support Programs, including personnel and initiatives, and providing operational support.  The position will focus on delivering comprehensive, specialized support services aimed at eliminating disparities in student well-being, school stability, attendance, achievement, graduation, and college access for students in foster care, experiencing homelessness, involved in juvenile justice system, or returning from probation camps or Los Angeles County Office of Education schools.  Additionally, the position will oversee the A-G Diploma Program, which supports identified secondary students who are at risk or currently off-track from meeting the District's A-G graduation requirements. 

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the division with the development and management of personnel, projects, initiatives, and programs to create safe, welcoming, healthy, and affirming learning and working environments in all schools
  • Assists with and guides the development and implementation of student health and human services policy and procedure and oversees related internal and external communications
  • Assesses the needs of division personnel, schools, students, families, and regions and establishes training, professional development, and support to strengthen programs and services District-wide
  • Builds adult capacity to create and sustain safe and healthy environments and to provide experiences that support wellness and learning in schools through the District with a special focus on highest need students and schools
  • Coordinates professional development for school-based, region, and District personnel related to multi-tiered systems of support to enhance school climate and culture, social-emotional development and physical and mental health
  • Coordinates programs and services within the division to align and personalize support services rendered to students
  • Manages and directs operational activities and support for multiple programs within the division
  • Prepares regular updates for the executive director that demonstrate progress toward reaching the division and District accountabilities and mandates
  • Assists District personnel, community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and other concerned parties in the development, promotion, and maintenance of internal and external District services or programs
  • Reviews and provides input into proposed and existing legislation, rules, and regulations; assists in the development, interpretation, and implementation of District policies, plans, and procedures
  • Supervises, supports and evaluates work performance of assigned division certificated or classified personnel serving in designated areas (e.g., central office, region, feeder complex, Specialized Student Support Services)
  • Works with and serves as a division liaison to outside agencies and partners such as universities, colleges, and staffing agencies to target recruitment of potential new division staff and to coordinate field education and intern programs on behalf of the division
  • Coordinates training for new employees to ensure a smooth transition into LAUSD and to increase retention
  • Provides direct support and consultation to division personnel, District leadership across divisions, or designated schools
  • Oversees staff development and implementation of trainings on topics such as educational rights of identified student populations (e.g., students experiencing homelessness, students in the foster care system, students involved in the juvenile justice system, and other underserved groups); multi-tiered systems of support to improve well-being, attendance and achievement; evidence-based, trauma/resilience informed practices and interventions; use of data; and District policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SALARY:

Salary: 39G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – E Basis ($120,806 – $150,474) – 234 paid days


NOTE: This position will close on June 30, 2025.

 

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits. However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
  • At least three (3) years of successful, full-time public school service in a non-classroom position(s) with assigned responsibilities directly related to pupil attendance services, student counseling, school social work, student discipline, or educational options
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures, goals, objectives, and organizational structure and functions
  • Knowledge of public and private resources and health and human services institutions working in coordination with the educational system and student health and human services staff
  • Demonstrated successful experience composing appropriate written communications and materials, including District policy guides, reference guides, or memorandums
  • Experience advocating for the educational rights of targeted at-risk students including, but not limited to, students in foster care or involved in the juvenile justice system, students experiencing homelessness, pregnant and parenting teens, and other underserved or at-risk populations
  • Experience coordinating student health and human services programs
  • Experience supervising and evaluating staff
  • Capacity to work independently while providing detailed updates on progress
  • Strong project management skills, particularly, when managing multiple responsibilities
  • A commitment to producing consistently high quality, detailed work
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others at all levels of the District and to demonstrate a high level of professionalism in all interactions
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work comfortably in an ambiguous climate and adapting to new circumstances
  • Ability to handle information in a confidential manner in accordance with established policies and legal requirements
