COORDINATOR, MAGNET PROGRAMS

42G (School Support Administrator, 0515)

 

The coordinator collaborates with the local school site teams to provide support in their efforts to comply with the District’s court ordered Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, and Other Non-Anglo (PHBAO) and voluntary integration program guidelines. The coordinator communicates performance standards and uses accountability measures to ensure that magnet programs are successfully implementing thematic instruction and adhering to magnet program guidelines.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates the development, implementation and monitoring of the court ordered Integration Program, including but not limited to, voluntary programs such as Magnet Program, Permits with Transportation (PWT) Program, and other programs to alleviate the five harms of racial isolation:  Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, and Other Non-Anglo (PHBAO), Capacity Adjustment Program (CAP), and class-size reduction
  • Guides school administrators in working with teachers, magnet coordinators, and other staff to promote theme-based instruction across all content areas, ensuring fidelity to appropriate strategies that provide access to core instruction, enrichment, and intervention for all magnet program students
  • Assists the Executive Director, Student Integration Services, Budget Services, and the Financial Planning Division in the preparation and presentation of the proposed annual budget for all integration programs
  • Collaboratively plans and organizes ongoing data-driven and focused professional development for program curriculum, policies, and procedures
  • Provides leadership for and coordinates a variety of administrative/instructional programs designed for schools with PHBAO or Student Integration Services (SIS) voluntary programs
  • Monitors school and student performance on magnet identified metrics to assist in assessing school site progress to meet the goals of the magnet program
  • Monitors and assists in planning, operational implementation, and evaluation of program fidelity for voluntary integration programs by reviewing reports/records, school site visitations, and observations
  • Plans, organizes and conducts meetings to promote community, school, central office, and region offices understanding of PHBAO and SIS voluntary programs
  • Leads professional development that builds the capacity of school site magnet coordinators to ensure that schools meet the goals of the voluntary integration program
  • Drafts and edits policy bulletins, memorandums, and reference guides
  • Serves as the executive director’s designee during Board meetings, senior leadership level meetings, and speaking engagements
  • Serves as a liaison with external partnerships
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SALARY:

42G, (School Support Administrator, 0515) – A Basis ($144,885 – $180,923) – 261 paid days

 

  • In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
  • This position is deemed certificated under Education Code Section 44065, but may not qualify for "creditable service" under Education Code Section 22119.5 for CalSTRS benefits. However, if the candidate chosen for the position is already a CalSTRS member, he/she can fill out an election form to remain in CalSTRS and thereby obtain CalSTRS credit for this service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District
  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential
  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school teaching experience in grades K-12
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally accredited college or university
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least three years of experience as an administrator of a school site
  • Knowledge of and experience with Magnet Program, Permits with Transportation Program, and other programs to alleviate the five harms of racial isolation
  • Knowledge of District operational policies (e.g. opportunity transfers) and procedures, and negotiated agreements as they pertain to student integration programs
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a broad variety of constituent groups, including both internal and external partners
  • Ability to facilitate professional development workshops
  • Ability to travel to other sites and locations
  • Ability to compose and comprehend written communication
  • Skill in the use of technology (including use of various District-developed software/databases and multi-media content) to access data
  • Excellent oral communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule that will include evening and weekend meetings/activities
