DEPARTMENT OR SCHOOL SITE
The Facilities Project Execution branch is responsible for the construction, repair and modernization of existing schools as part of a multi-year bond funded capital improvement program. Project Execution is dedicated to the twin goals of providing relief from overcrowding and returning students to a traditional two-semester calendar as well as ensuring that existing campuses are modernized and repaired in support of the education and safety of our students utilizing cost efficient and sustainable materials. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
A Construction Manager provides administrative oversight to multiple Senior Resident Construction Engineers and Resident Construction Engineers by monitoring overall performance of assigned new construction, modernization, and repair projects.
Additional duties include:
• Resolving complex construction project related issues, disputes, and disagreements.
• Developing, assigning, and monitoring performance of Resident Construction Engineers and Senior Resident Construction Engineers relative to assigned construction projects.
• Reviewing status and overall construction project progress relative to submitted construction schedules.
• Reviewing all change orders from all construction projects and assessing their impact on the District.
• Assisting Regional Construction Directors and other Facilities management staff with bid and contract planning.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
PROMOTIONAL STATUS IS REQUIRED. You must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or
have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
At a minimum, this job classification requires graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, planning, facilities management, construction management, business, or a related field, and five years of executive or administrative
experience managing large programs or projects in construction value excess of $50 million involving construction of new facilities, or the planning and coordinating of capital projects and/or facilities
maintenance and/or operations.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have exceptional capabilities as a leader as well as a manager, and will be comfortable in a team-oriented working environment. He or she will have strengths as a negotiator and
consensus-builder, and will have an open and accessible management style with successful experience partnering with project management staff and construction contractors to bring creative and cost effective
solutions to field discovered deficiencies.
A successful candidate will have:
• 17 years of full-time professional project/construction management experience.
• 5 years of experience in managing large programs with projects having construction values in excess of $100 million.
• 5 years of experience in education facility construction or public works projects.
Additionally, the successful candidate will preferably have:
• Design Build Experience
• Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM)
• Experience in Leadership and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS)
• Experience in Formal Construction Partnering
• Experience with DSA construction/design processes
• A valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer by the California State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
• A valid Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI)
• A valid Certification of Project Management Professionals (PMPs) or Program Management Professionals (PgMPs) by the Project Management Institute
• A valid Certificate of Registration as a licensed architect by the California State Architects
