The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Cesar Chavez Elementary School towards academic success.
Chavez Elementary School has been serving the El Sereno community for twenty years. The school is committed to providing every student with standards-based instruction within a caring and nurturing environment that fosters social-emotional development. Chavez ES strives to offer a rigorous academic program designed to prepare students to be Ready for the World. The school serves approximately 200 students in grades TK–6 and believes in the benefits of full inclusion to support students with disabilities. Currently, 33% of students are students with disabilities and 24% are English Learners. The student population is predominantly Hispanic (94%), with the remaining percentage made up of White, African American, and Filipino students. Chavez Elementary is located at 5243 Oakland St, Los Angeles, CA 90032.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
is an energetic, collaborative leader with a passion for meeting the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. They will possess a deep understanding of the Common Core State Standards, the Teaching and Learning Framework, and the School Leadership Framework. A strong background in supporting students with disabilities and leading inclusive school environments is essential. The candidate should be experienced in implementing, supervising, and monitoring standards-based instruction and guiding school teams in developing and executing action plans that promote academic success for all student groups, including English learners, foster youth, low-income students, and students with disabilities. They will demonstrate the ability to plan and facilitate professional development aligned to school and District goals; use multiple sources of data to lead stakeholders through cycles of improvement; and manage school operations efficiently. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills are critical, along with the ability to cultivate a positive and joyful school culture, foster relationships, and build capacity among certificated and classified staff. Additionally, they will lead efforts to support positive behavior systems, ensure compliance with state and federal mandates, and serve as a trusted resource to students, families, and staff.
SALARY:
40G - E Basis ($123,618 - $153,961) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
