The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal, Secondary Counseling Services (APSCS) to collaborate with the principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Central/Tri-C High School towards building paths to graduation, academic excellence, and success beyond secondary school.
Central High School/Tri-C is a multi-site, district-wide dropout prevention and credit recovery school. We provide trauma-informed, culturally relevant, engaging, student-centered, standards-based instruction that fosters college and career readiness. Our mission is to promote educational and social equity throughout our school; to support foundational skill-building while providing grade-level instruction; to facilitate intellectual and social growth; to rekindle the joy and love of learning; to communicate and collaborate, encouraging dialogue among our constituencies; to nurture social and emotional wellness; to provide a safe, accepting, and supportive setting so that students have the opportunity to creatively explore and clarify their own beliefs and values; to take acceptable academic risks without judgment; and to think and speak for themselves. We are a Title I school serving approximately 450 students in grades 9 through 12. According to the 2024-2025 LAUSD Open Data, the following is recorded as our school demographics: 85.4% Latino/Hispanic, 6.1% African-American, 4.5% White/non-Hispanic, .8% Two or More Races, .4% Pacific Islander, 1.2% Filipino and 1.6% Asian. 31.2% were classified as English Learners, 1.4% Foster Youth, and 9.2% experiencing homelessness.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Is responsible for developing and maintaining the master schedule, developing the matrix, and ensuring that students are fully and accurately scheduled. The APSCS also serves various designee roles and supports the principal in all administrative functions. The APSCS needs to have experience in utilizing effective behavior intervention strategies, restorative practices, counseling techniques, and must be able to multi-task within a high-demand atmosphere. The APSCS also needs to have instructional leadership skills, which include professional development and educator growth and development experience and be able to communicate effectively with the school community, parents, faculty, and support staff. The ideal candidate will have; experience with convention instruction a well as Edgenuity aligned to effective teaching and learning practices; knowledge of Common Core State Standards and the EDST Teaching and Learning Framework; problem solving skills that include the ability to analyze data aimed at driving instructional decisions; familiarity with various forms of technology and district databases (i.e. Google applications, website management, Schoology, Zoom, Microsoft, MiSiS, Welligent, Focus & Whole Child Dashboards, Edgenuity, etc.), and the ability to infuse, monitor, and track technology within instructional practices; and knowledge of A-G requirements aimed at meeting the needs of high-needs student populations. The ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
SALARY:
38G - B Basis ($110,981 – $138,149) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
