The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Carson Senior High School, Academy of Education and Empowerment towards academic excellence.
The Carson Community of Schools seeks an outstanding, self-motivated, and hands-on Principal to lead the students, parents, staff, and diverse community at Carson Academies of Education and Empowerment at Carson Complex towards academic excellence and in meeting our MISSION to develop socially conscious, critical thinkers who are prepared for life beyond high school, college, careers in education, public service, and computer science. Carson High AEE is a Title 1 school serving approximately 475 in 9-12th grade students. The demographics of the student body is comprised of 61.4% Latino, 11.2% African American, 9.7% Filipino. 4% Asian, and 6.6% Pacific Islander, 11% receive Special Education Services, and .05% are classified as English learners. The school is located at 22328 S. Main Street, Carson, CA 90745.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
should be a progressive and innovative leader who will have in-depth knowledge and experiences with diverse populations of students; be collaborative with all stakeholders to foster a school environment that promotes academic achievement, equity, and social-emotional wellness. Additionally, the leader should prioritize school safety, cleanliness, and maintain strong partnerships with parents and the community, and the two co-located principals on the complex at Carson AMA (Pilot School) and Carson HS. Should obtain a firm belief that all students can achieve high academic standards; knowledge of research-based best instructional practices; well-developed understanding of the Teaching and Learning Framework; the ability to provide meaningful effective feedback to teachers is essential. The ability to collaboratively plan and facilitate professional development for large and small groups aligned to the Common Core State Standards; have effective oral and written communication skills; experience in managing school operations; experience in managing school budgets; supports the implementation of restorative justice strategies as part of a School Wide Positive Behavior (PBIS) support plan will be vital.
SALARY:
MST 44G - E Basis ($137,393 - $171,333) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in a secondary school
CONTINUE - REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
And one of the following:
- A minimum of one year of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential.
- Three years of verifiable full-time experience in a school-based leadership non-classroom assignment, such as coordinator, instructional coach, or dean. A portion of this time may include the following:
- Experience as a lead teacher and successful completion of an aspiring principals program sponsored by the Human Resources Division
- Experience as a member of a Pilot School Design team and successful completion of an aspiring principals program sponsored by the Human Resources Division
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching.

- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
