The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, with Elementary or Secondary background to lead, support, and collaborate with the students, staff, and community at Caroldale Learning Community STEAM Academy towards academic excellence.


Caroldale Learning Community STEAM Academy is a TK-8th grade SPAN school that is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and located in Carson, California. Caroldale is a unique span school that fosters a strong community of lifelong learners, responsible scholars, and empowered community members working together toward academic achievement, social emotional wellbeing, and compassionate problem solving, to contribute with integrity to our global society. We are a school-wide Title I school, with approximately 71% of the students from low-income homes. Caroldale serves approximately 704 students, in TK-8th grade. The school demographics of students consists of 0.2% American Indian, 3,2% Asian, 49.9% Latino, 8.1% African American/Black, 23.4 Filipino, 2.1% White, 2.4% Pacific Islander, and 4.6% 2 or more ethnicities. There is a 7.2% English Learner population, 18.15% student with disabilities, 12.36% GATE, and 1.25% Foster Youth. Caroldale Learning Community STEAM Academy is committed to providing a strong learning foundation to prepare each student college and career readiness, with a focus on STEAM education, using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics to engage students in developing critical thinking, dialogue, and inquiry. We share the belief that through a strong, active collaboration with students, parents, guardians, and community members, we can create a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that challenges all our students and makes them "Ready for the World". The school is located at 22424 Caroldale Avenue, Carson, CA 90745.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

must be a visionary and innovative leader who will contribute to a culture of collaboration, interdependence, and mutual accountability; will have in-depth knowledge and experiences with diverse populations of students (English Learners, Special Education, GATE, and Students of Color), and committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders with a purpose of fostering a school environment, that promotes academic achievement and excellence, social-emotional growth, safety, and strong community and parent partnerships; will have effective oral and written communication skills; will have knowledge of State, Federal and LAUSD policies, procedures and regulations; will have knowledge and experience with standards based instruction, the Teaching and Learning Framework, the Master Plan for English Learners; be able to conduct classroom observations and provide actionable feedback for improved performance; will have experience in planning and implementing professional development; will have experience with school operations and school budget preparation; will have excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize commitments to meet all deadlines.

SALARY:

45G - E Basis ($141.159– $176,037) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the district resolves an under or overpayment).

Selected individuals may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary and/or middle school
  • Two years of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching.
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. To be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
