DEPARTMENT OR SCHOOL SITE

A Campus Aide assists in maintaining student discipline and ensuring that students and others on a school campus, as well as at bus loading points, follow rules and procedures, as directed by a school administrator or teacher. The purpose of this recruitment is to create an interest list that may be used to fill critical vacancies across the school district.

NOTE: Positions in this job classification may be offered on a 9-month basis - salary and paid time off for 9-month positions will be adjusted accordingly.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Patrols school corridors, locker rooms, restrooms, assembly areas, athletic facilities, gymnasiums, bus-loading zones, and other campus locations to monitor student behavior and prevent violations or unsafe activities.
  • Provides school administrators with information regarding campus and community tensions, offering insights into their causes and effects.
  • Observes and gathers information on gang activities, offering guidance to school staff as needed.
  • Directs students and visitors and takes appropriate action to prevent injuries or property damage.
  • Engages with student groups to discuss topics such as drug prevention, gambling, attendance, gang activity, vandalism, safety, and community relations.
  • Monitors campus access before and after school, ensuring only authorized individuals are present.
  • Assists school administrators in contacting parents regarding students with behavioral concerns and participates in discussions about campus security with parents and community groups.
  • Supports certificated employees in supervising students during field trips and special events.
  • Assists certificated employees in counseling individual students or student groups and in supporting student clubs.
  • Helps with the delivery, setup, layout, or collection of equipment and materials as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualified applicants will possess a high school diploma or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency.

 

SPECIAL NOTE: Completion of a State approved campus safety training program is required.

This candidate excels in building positive relationships with students, staff, and parents, demonstrating strong oral communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse groups. They are quick to assess situations and respond appropriately in emergencies, using sound judgment to ensure student and staff safety. Additionally, they are proficient in operating two-way radio equipment to maintain clear and efficient communication.

Above all, the ideal Campus Aide is a team player who works effectively with District personnel, students, parents, and the broader school community. They take pride in creating a secure and welcoming learning environment where all students can thrive.

Selection and promotion are based on a competitive employment assessment process. Candidates who pass all parts of the assessment process are placed on a hiring (eligibility) list based on their assessment score. Hiring departments may make job offers to candidates on the top three ranks of the hiring list. Eligibility typically lasts for 12 months. The hiring list resulting from this assessment process may be used to fill open positions in related job classifications.
