The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Cahuenga Elementary towards academic success.
Cahuenga Elementary School is in the central section of LAUSD and situated in the heart of Koreatown. This multi-lingual, multi-cultural community consists of new immigrants from Asia, Mexico, Central America, and South America. The school is committed to providing every student with standards-based instruction within a caring and nurturing environment that fosters social-emotional development. We are committed to providing a safe learning environment where children can reach their fullest potential to become well-rounded, productive, and responsible citizens of the future. Cahuenga ES strives to offer a rigorous academic program designed to prepare students to be Ready for the World. The school serves approximately 353 students in grades UTK–5, Korean dual language two-way immersion and Spanish dual language one-way immersion programs. There are 19 general education classes, two Special Day Program classes, and the Resource Specialist Program. The student population is Hispanic (60.5%), Asian (28.2%), with the remaining percentage made up of White, African American, and Filipino students. Cahuenga Elementary is located at 220 S. Hobart Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90004.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will use data to implement multi-tiered system of supports for all students; have excellent oral and written communication skills and educational leadership experience; have strong knowledge of the California academic standards to support standards-based instruction; have strong knowledge of the English Learner Master Plan; have the ability to strategize and provide multiple and differentiated learning opportunities to support student academic needs in addition to their social, emotional, psychological, and physical needs; have the ability to multitask; create systems and schedules; problem solve effectively and efficiently; have an understanding of the Teaching and Learning Framework to support and build capacity of certificated staff; have experience integrating technology into teaching and learning; have knowledge of the instructional needs of emergent bilinguals, special education, foster youth, and low income students; and be a team player. The ideal candidate also has a strong background in supporting students in Korean and Spanish dual-language programs and demonstrates a commitment to empowering students, staff, and families by fostering trust, shared leadership, and a belief in every community member's brilliance. Bilingual in Korean or Spanish is desirable.
SALARY:
41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
- Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

- Analyzing data to inform decisions that resulted in accelerated student achievement
- Using digital productivity/communications/social media applications like Google Docs/apps, Trello for project management, Schoology, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Welligent and other District systems
