The Los Angeles Unified School district seeks a dynamic, innovative, and courageous Principal to lead a diverse school community at Broadway Elementary School to sustain and expand its high performing academic success, instructional pathways and strong community engagement.

Broadway Elementary School is renowned for its high-performing Mandarin and Spanish Dual Language Immersion Programs that serve approximately 535 students. The Mandarin dual language program enrollment is 362 students, and the Spanish dual language program enrollment is 175 students. The student body is comprised of 25% two-or-more-race, 26% Asian, 13% White, 24% Latino, 4% African American, and others.  The student body includes 9% English Learners, 31% GATE students, and 7% students with disabilities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The Ideal Candidate will be dedicated to promoting a shared sense of responsibility for all students and DLE programs. The ideal candidate will maintain an environment that fosters equity, promotes positive student behavior, and uses data to determine school-wide priorities and goals. This includes strong knowledge in the following areas: LAUSD Strategic Plan, dual language program implementation, related instructional pedagogies and research, academic standards, the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework, the English Learner Master Plan, Special Education, and School Operations. The candidate will have skills and experience in supporting teachers in their professional and leadership growth and in problem solving; have strong organizational and communication skills and impeccable judgement to optimize students’ learning experiences in each dual language immersion pathway. The candidate will coach and lead teachers and staff in data-driven, targeted, and goal-oriented instructional work, including providing professional development that is meaningful and aligns with student needs and the district goals.  The candidate will be competent in maintaining and enhancing a collaborative culture among all stakeholders, will prioritize student safety, student achievement and wellbeing, equity and access in all planning of school budgets, schedules, and all school activities.

SALARY:

SALARY: 41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days

 

  • For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
  • For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
  • Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

  • Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
  • A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
  • Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

 

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*
  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university               • District Master Plan requirements*

 

*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

 

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
