PRINCIPAL, ELEMENTARY

The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and community at Breed Street Elementary School towards academic success.

Breed Elementary is a single-track school serving 279 students in Grades UTK through 6th Grade. Breed Elementary is a School-wide Title I school. Enrollment school demographics by students’ groups:  0.3% Homeless, 24% Students with Disabilities, 37% English Learners, 0.1% Foster Youth, and 77% socioeconomically Disadvantaged. The racial and ethnic make-up of the student body is as follows: 97.1% Hispanic, .72% African American, Asian, White. Languages spoken in the homes are as follows: English and Spanish.     

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

will be a progressive and innovative leader who will have in-depth knowledge and experience with diverse populations of students, parents, and community; ability to build strong community partnerships; be collaborative with all stakeholders to foster a school environment that promotes academic achievement, equity, and social-emotional wellness. The candidate should have a strong instructional background analyzing and utilizing data for school improvement and a well-developed understanding of the Teaching and Learning Framework. The candidate must be well versed with the CA State standards to effectively support teachers in the implementation.   In addition, the candidate must have experience in planning, designing, and implementing differentiated professional development; experience supervising and evaluating staff; the ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, linguistic, and disability groups; experience with district reporting systems; knowledge of trauma informed best practices and the school wide positive behavior and intervention process; knowledge of the Master Plan to support English learners; have outstanding and effective oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and problem solving abilities; successful experience with school operations, budget preparation and planning; prioritize school safety and cleanliness. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a willingness to perform other duties as assigned for the success of the school. Bilingual Spanish skills are desirable.              

SALARY:

41G - E Basis ($126,504 - $157,802) – 234 paid days

• For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.  
• For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
• Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):

• Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
• A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
• A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
• Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position

Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

• A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
• A valid California Administrative Services Credential                                    • Multicultural coursework*
• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university               • District Master Plan requirements*

*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.  Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.

   • Responding to school operational (e.g. safety, discipline foundations policy) situations
