The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Pilot School Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Boyle Heights Hilda Solis Senior High and Boyle Heights Hilda Solis HS STEM Magnet (Resident School and Magnet School) towards academic excellence.
Boyle Height Hilda Solis HS and Magnet is a newly merged pilot school (Boyle Heights Hilda Solis HS STEM Magnet and Hilda L. Solis Learning Academy). Boyle Heights Hilda Solis High School and Magnet is a comprehensive high school of approximately 250 students in grades 9-12 in the Los Angeles School District (LAUSD). Of the approximate 250 students, 97.2% identify Latinx, 1.2% identify as African American/Black, 1.2% identify as White, 0.4% identify as Asian. Approximately 17.1% of the student population are English Learners, and 12.9% are students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). BHHS HS offers a Linked Learning Gold Certified Engineering Pathway, a full A-G program and received a six-year WASC accreditation through 2025.
In LAUSD, the Pilot Schools are a network of public schools that have autonomy over budget, staffing, governance, curriculum, assessment, and the school calendar. These autonomies allow Boyle Height Hilda Solis HS and Magnet to operate with greater flexibility in order to best meet our students’ needs. The school is located at 319 N. Humphreys Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90022.
The fundamental mission of Boyle Height Hilda Solis HS and Magnet is to be a collaborative learning community that educates all students with an emphasis on developing STEM literacy and 21st century skills.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will be innovative, adaptive, and a community-centered visionary leader with strong knowledge of Common Core State Standards, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Teaching and Learning Framework, Linked Learning/Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, A-G requirements, and Pilot School Governance and Autonomies. The ideal candidate must possess strong and effective planning and organization skills, be able to interpret data to inform decisions, and have a strong ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
SALARY:
Salary: MST 43G - E Basis ($133,626 - $166,705) – 234 paid days
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to budget limitations.
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- A minimum of two years of experience in a secondary school
And one of the following:
- A minimum of one year of service in an administrative or supervisory position utilizing an administrative credential.
- Three years of verifiable full-time experience in a school-based leadership non-classroom assignment, such as coordinator, instructional coach, or dean. A portion of this time may include the following:
- Experience as a lead teacher and successful completion of an aspiring principals program sponsored by the Human Resources Division
- Experience as a member of a Pilot School Design team and successful completion of an aspiring principals program sponsored by the Human Resources Division
Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching.
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements
*Candidates have one year to complete this requirement
For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
