The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Assistant Principal to partner with the Principal to lead the students, staff, and community at Phineas Banning High School toward academic success.
Banning High School, including its four Magnet programs, seven Academies, specialized programs and CTE Pathways serve approximately 2,400 students. Our specialized populations include 13% Students with Disabilities; 12% English Learners; and 18% Gifted.
The school serves largely a Latino population and about 7% identify as Asian, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Black, and/ or White. BHS is on a traditional calendar and on a seven-period bell schedule. Banning High School is located at 1527 Lakme Avenue, Wilmington, CA 90744.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
will place students’ best interest at the center of the decision making process with the Master schedule, student programming, standard-based instruction, parent engagement, and differentiated professional development; have completed the LAUSD Master Program Institute; possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with instructional leaders, students, and parents; be able to supervise, support and build capacity among counseling and support staff that are both certificated and classified; approach all challenges with a growth mindset; experience with working with diverse student populations; have the ability to manage multiple District and support initiatives in support of high quality counseling and social- emotional support; utilize the principles and practices of counseling and guidance; implement principles of Restorative Justice and Trauma- Informed Practices; and have a strong work ethic and be committed to our school community, staff, and students.
SALARY:
SALARY: 41G - B Basis ($119,477 – $149,036) – 221 paid days
- For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
- For an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
- Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority based RIF provisions or due to budget limitations.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (PUBLIC SCHOOL SETTING):
- Five years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
- A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
- No fewer than two years of successful experience in a middle/senior high school counseling office
Employees who have been issued a below-standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension, shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice.

- A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
- A valid California Administrative Services Credential • Multicultural coursework*
- A valid Pupil Personnel Services Credential
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university • District Master Plan requirements*

For all school based administrative positions, candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying. In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program. Qualified applicants not in an eligible pool from within or outside LAUSD may be considered if fewer than five applicants from the eligible pool apply for the position.
